After George Bluth Sr. was arrested for fraud, Michael was named the new president.
George Michael: I’d rather live like this than like my aunt and uncles, whose eyes have never stung... from the sweet sweat of a hard day’s work.
Michael: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Where are you gettin’ all that?
George Michael: From you. You say it every couple of years when they come out to visit.

| While overall I like the Extended Pilot better, I think the "candy" line works much better as a joke than "cocaine" because it’s so absurd for GOB to think he can worm his way out of his "whore" line buy associating it with something kids can relate to. |

i prefer "candy" too...
i also love when after michael scolds lindsay for saying she should know better and he walks away, GOB says,"he’s really mad at you lindsay"... that line kills me

I love em both...The pilot is a fantastic episode in itself. Most tv pilots are pretty good but havn’t quite got the rythm of the show yet, as the episodes progress they start to get better and get their rythm...an example being SEINFELD which became such a classic and yet the pilot just doesn’t work or fit in with the rest of the show...
the AD pilot is hystarically funny, witty, fast and paced. And it fits in perfectly with the rest of the show!
The Extended pilot works just as well, and I like the new scenes - Maybe’s rebellious statement that she wants to be in beauty pageants is fantastic, and GOB is such an IDIOT with the "Whore Cocaine" routine...I think all the extra little somethings work well, but I do believe that the reason why they were cut from the aired version is because the cut scenes all rely on the audience have prior knowledge of the characters, otherwise it wouldn’t work as well...
Anyway, I have befuddled my way through this post and will now zip my lip on the subject!

I Think the extended pilot is much better because some of my favourite lines/scenes from the carachters are there like the "somebodys a rude gus" that has to one of tobias’s best lines and the monopoly thing with gob is pure genius along with george-michaels line "its so much like stealing". The extended pilot is one of my favourite episodes and the normal pilot is one of my least favourite allthough a bad episode of AD is still brilliant.

In the commentary Mitch mentions he would like to have a family member blurred out and he did that with Andy Richter. And Gob’s line is originally "Or cocaine...and candy" judging from his positions.

Wow, really? I always thought it was just scripted as "or candy," but the cocaine line was an improvisation that they felt was so funny, it had to be included somewhere in the DVD.

One thing I definitely like about the extended:
"This is Michael Bluth. He’s a good man."

I love how the extended pilot fleshes out George Srs. Western kick.
The sign that said "Happy Trails" makes more sense.. as does the angle of George Sr. when he’s being hauled away in the police boats.
I also love the extendedness of the "Hasn’t everything already been discovered, by like Magelan, Cortez NASA
"Oh yeah those guys did a pretty good job..."
It doesn’t hurt to doublecheck!"- Lucille
