To save money on expensive attorney fees, Michael tells George, Sr. to plead guilty, but George, Sr. proclaims his innocence and says he was set up by an underground British group. Michael goes to “Wee Britain” to investigate these claims, and meets a beautiful British woman, Rita, whom he asks out on a date. Meanwhile, Lindsay tries to flirt with the family’s new attorney and ends up being charged for her time, and G.O.B. stages an elaborate magic trick to get out of spending time with his son.

References

chicken
G.O.B., Lucille, and Lindsay all perform their chicken dances, and George, Sr.’s “coo-coo ca-cha” chicken dance is seen for the first time. CONTEXT
disclaimer
The sign by the flight of the Mary Poppuns reads: “Caution: Please stay off my landing port... I’m not the tourist killing sort... But if you have a working girl to kill, please let her stay while I do my will.” CONTEXT
Donald Rumsfeld
When Michael says a photo with Saddam Hussein is not always a career ender, an image of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld is shown shaking hands with Saddam in 1983. CONTEXT
head shot
Tobias’s headshot is captioned “No reality” which overtly indicates his unwillingness to act in reality shows, but ironically indicates his denial of reality. CONTEXT
homosexual
Tobias says he would like to be in G.O.B.’s “prostate-ticular,” and later says he can “taste those meaty leading man parts in my mouth.”
horny
Lucille tells Michael, “Mama horny,” similar to George, Sr.’s expression in Visiting Ours. CONTEXT
Mary Poppuns
According to the sign in the background, “Ms. Poppuns is an original creation of Wee Britain and is in no way meant to invoke the character of the popular novel, musical or stage show ‘Mary Poppins’. Our Ms. Poppuns has neither the trade-markable qualities of being a nanny nor the power of flight, but instead is a cleaning woman who transports herself with the aid of a guide wire and a sturdy cane as she fights the likes of Jack the Ripper every weekday at quarter past and half after every odd Greenwich mean hour.” CONTEXT
No. I love it!
When G.O.B. asks Steve Holt if he likes magic, Steve’s response of “No, I love it” parallels Carl Weathers’s response to Lucille 2 about ham. Not that there’s any parallel between magic and ham. CONTEXT
Saddam Hussein
A photograph shows George, Sr. shaking hands with Saddam Hussein in 1998. Saddam’s apron is subtitled “You’ll take it the way I make it.” CONTEXT
Soup Nazi
George, Sr. claims that he thought Saddam Hussein was the Soup Nazi, a character on Seinfeld. CONTEXT
miscellany
BBC, bird, FOX 6, James Bond, Mary Poppins, Seinfeld, The O.C., The Yellowfang, thing of candy beans, type, Wee Britain

Quotes

G.O.B.: But it’s not like envy, or even hungry.

Michael: Could it be love?

G.O.B.: I know what an erection feels like, Michael. No, it’s the opposite. It’s... it’s like my heart is getting hard. Maybe I am ready to be a father.

thats what it was originally called, but it got changed to "For British Eyes Only" at the last minute. My cable box first said it was called "British Bomshell", but it changed on the day it aired, so i guess it was a last minute desicion.

Is this the episode with the Bluth Family Chicken dances? Because IMO that part sucked. Too idiotic and unrealistic.

I think that’s the whole point. Michael would think the exact same thing

Since when is everything in AD realistic anyway?

Surely if he was truly british, he wouldn’t bother brushing his teeth at all and use the spare hand to fit an extra cigarette in?

I don’t really think so... the Chicken dances have been a part of the show since Staff Infection in Season 1. Everyone in the family has a different one, and we know from Ready, Aim, Marry Me that they like to join in with eachother when doing them. Granted, four people at once was a bit excessive, but I still laughed my ass off the first time I saw it, and isn’t that what really counts?

If there’s anything "idiot and unrealistic" about this episode, it’s all the stuff with Wee Britain, though given what we find out about it in The Ocean Walker, it does sort of make sense, I suppose.

Hey, isn’t that why we love AD because of that mix of unrealistic (your words!), slapstick, satire, one liners etc.etc. - its the perfect concentrations of each of these that no other show seems to be able to achieve.

I cracked up the first time I saw those chicken dances - and even throughout the seasons each time we saw someone else do one - it was a real treat to finally have all the adult characters do a chicken dancce.

Geroge says he mistook Saddam Hussein for the Soup Nazi in this episode. Larry Thomas later plays a saddam look a like in ’Exit Strategy’ BRILLIANT!!!!

I love the foreshadowing at the start of this episode.

In the Previously on Arrested Development section, Micheal says to his son:

"I don’t even have a girl, much less a stupid one."
