It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

There are shows other than Arrested Development? Really?

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Postby SteveHolt! » August 19th, 2005, 6:50 pm

Just a question: anyone here watch It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia? I've been watching it since the pilot and I find it really entertaining. It's dark, and a little mean-spirited, but good. It's a little AD-derivative style-wise [hand-held cameras, quick explainatory cut scenes] but fun to watch. The comedy's unexpected and unorthodox, and the tone is strangely unique. Plus it's populated by a cast of 20-somethings, so it hits my pathetic demographic.
Anyone else watching? If not, check it out. Tuesday nights at 11 p.m. on FX.

Oh, and stay away from Starved. It's terrible.

I was all excited about Starved and I'm really let down by it. But after last nights prom episode I LOVE IASIP (theres gotta be a better way to shorten that)
It makes me sad because I leave for school next week and I dont get FX there. I guess I'll just tape all the episodes at home. I wasnt too sure about this show at first, but I laughed so hard at last nights. Just something about the whole bar being full of High Schoolers just cracked me up

I love this show! (as you can see by my avatar :) ). Its the best show that premiered this year IMO (oh yeah, that and Stella). Charlie is the best character. Hes always yelling and acting like a little kid. "That's Trent, Tammy's ex-boyfriend. This is classic Tammy." ROFL! Oh, and on the Charlie Day forum, they just call it 'Sunny' for short. Great show

"Sunny" sounds good to me. Oh GOD the "this is classic Tammy" story had me cracking up, especially when he starts telling it again exactly the same way

PETE AND PETE!

Postby SteveHolt! » August 20th, 2005, 10:03 pm

Holy crow, Cherith, your avatar is AWESOME! I heart Pete & Pete so much. Between that and Eerie, Indiana, that's such a chunk of my childhood right there.
Have you gotten the Pete & Pete First season DVD yet? If so, is it worth getting? (I know it's worth getting, but really worth getting?)

Oh, to keep on-topic here: Anyone see any other eps besides the (hilarious) Prom Episode of "Sunny"? Most of their episodes have been pretty funny, so far. Comments on the tone/style of the show? How everything's kind of burnt/darkened in lighting? Gritty, maybe?

Oh it is soooo worth getting. Its only $25 and it says you get 8 episodes, but really its 12, plus some of the shorts. Also theres commentaries, but I havent listened to them yet. I cant wait til they put the secong season out!

Also back on topic, I LOVED the abortion thing on Sunny, I thought it was dark, darring, and hillarious

(on the Pro-Life side) "I have wonderful news, I'm pregnant"

"Oh, well you need to get an abortion"

I've never heard of Eerie, Indiana. Am I missing out on something good?

Also I forgot to add that I've seen all of the Sunny episodes

While watching this show and it's partner in crime, Starved, the words "So this is what happens when you put a bunch of monkeys in a room with a typewriter" came out of my mouth. Which is never a good sign.

And another thing! The dialog is SO on-the-nose.

Example:

*AT AN ABORTION RALLY*
Guy: So, do you come to these things often?

Girl: Are you hitting on me at an abortion rally?

YES! Yes he was! Which was very funny, but then you had to go ahead and declare it to the world! There was a great little awkward silcen after his question, which made me start to giggle a bit, and then BAM! All my dreams of laughter were crushed by her "incase no one gets humor, he just flirted with me at an abortion rally, which is odd because we are here for a healthy cause and it is no place for men to come and hit on women".

Sorry for the double post.

I just watched this show for the first time, in part because you guys recommended it. So I just watched the one with underage drinking and "Charlie Has Cancer". WOW. I love this show. I was cracking up and giggling the whole time. I really hope they keep this one around. It's clearly influenced by Seinfeld, Scrubs and Curb Your Enthusiasm, but damned if it isn't hysterical.
