Curb Your Enthusiasm

There are shows other than Arrested Development? Really?

Postby Poster_Not_Found » June 17th, 2006, 1:48 am

Okay, so I watched the One-Hour Curb Comedy Pilot Special and "The Pants Tent" and "Porno Gil" and I noticed that they made Jeff much more sympathetic. I remember him cheating on his wife a whole damn lot, and then Cheryl's dislike of him(which went away for some reason) and I don't know...Where did that go?

Nor could we be caught prancing around the laundry room of our friend's house holding a bra up to our chest that belongs to our freind's wife (as also happened last night when Larry sought to guess the bra size of his cleaning lady) and expect to get away with that too, as Larry did.

That sounds like something I would do.

Season Five comes out today on DVD. I haven't seen the fifth season yet, so I've tried to avoid spoilers, though, from what I have heard the fifth season "isn't as good as past seasons" which comes as no surprise, since fans of these shows always say that about the current season of a show that's been funny in the past. (AD season 3, Scrubs season 5, etc -- MrF*** that).

I digress, anyone copping the new Curb DVD's?

I'll say that Season 5 is pretty average most of the way through (with some bright spots, of course), but the finale is just awesome.

That was hilarious when Cheryl and Suzie(sp?) were yelling at Larry and the video tape of him with the bra is playing behind him.

I picked up the 5th season the other day (first time watching - didn't have HBO at the time) and I'll say this:

So far, some episodes haven't been that great ( the Larry David Sandwich, for example) but I thought "The Bowtie" was hilarious (Love any Wanda and Larry interaction and the "Tucker Carlson" line was great), as was "the Christ Nail".

Larry seems to be more of an instigator in this season, and to a degree, in the 4th season, than in previous seasons. still fun to watch (cringe), though.

Only just getting Season 5 on TV in Australia now, and have only seen the first ep, The Larry David Sandwich, which I thought was quite a good episode overrall, after starting off in rather mediocre fashion- That flailing about in the water and the first few scenes after that were lame and rather pointless, I thought. Still, it got better- the arguement with Ted Danson, for example, was priceless! :D

Giving this another go tonight, still can't really get into it. Nice to see Larry the Surrogate though.

Fun fact: I know someone who actually has a racist dog.

Call me crazy, but the episode that has just aired in Australia, The Bow Tie, is, in my opinion, one of the funniest Curb's in recent memory! I actually was laughing virtually non-stop from beginning to end, and thought Larry and the lesbians thing was hysterical as was Wanda accusing Larry of buying a "Clan Dog".

Maybe it's just me, but I thought The Bow Tie was a killer ep. Solid ep full of laughs all the way through it. Loved it! :D

A 6th Season of Curb?... Flogging a dead horse?

Renew your enthusiasm

Larry David agrees to sixth series

Larry David is to make a sixth series of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Production is now due to start on another ten episodes of the acclaimed sitcom in October.

All the stars, including Jeff Garlin, Cheryl Hines, and Susie Essman are expected to return for the HBO series, which is expected to air next year.

David has appeared publicly indifferent about whether he was interested in bringing the series back since the last season finished in the States on December 4 with an episode entitled The End.

And last month, HBO chairman Chris Albrecht said: ‘Larry was very unsure after last season. He needed to be inspired.’
However, the upmarket cable channel has now struck a deal with David for the new season, according to Hollywood’s trade papers today.

Eh, it's Larry David. What else is he going to do apart from something like this? Well, I guess he could make a new show with different people, but still. Even though last season wasn't the best, and I'm sure a new season won't be a huge improvement, it's still a good thing. I'm excited.

It's better than the majority of other television comedies, but I was really hoping to see him try something else... maybe move back behind the camera and do what he does best again, which is writing tightly scripted sitcoms.

As far as I'm concerned, few shows can match CYE at the top of it's game. Even it's lacklustre episodes are funnier than most other shows on TV.

You have to like this about CYE: There are no messages, there is no maudlin melodrama, there's no sympathetic characters really- it's all just played for laughs. Not that many shows around attempt that, and if they did, they probably wouldn't work as well as CYE.

So Season Six Sounds Splendid! :D
