Embarrassing songs you listen to

Postby Operation Hot Mother » September 23rd, 2005, 8:28 pm

...and dont tell your friends about them

im into late 60s to early 90s (classic to JUST before grunge....dont really like flannel) but everyonce in a while i find myself rockin out to some pretty outcasted songs in my itunes library...

i usually listen to:
acdc, the rollin stones, guns n roses, queen, black sabbath, led zeppelin, and the who

sometimes i get embarrassed when i find out im rockin out to: boston- more than a feeling, poison- every rose has its thorn, europe- the final countdown (everyone knows why!), journey- dont stop believin', and styx in general

anybody have any songs that they love that differ from the usual suspects?
YES! The MI6 hero, back from the dead...

more than a feeling is such a nice song, a mood elevator. why are you embarrassed about it?
GOB: Wow, it won't be easy to win a race against myself. Of course, if anyone can do it, I can.

Venessa Carlton's White Houses. It's a good song, but I don't tell my friends about it. Also, the first two Good Charlotte albums were good too. But I haven't heard their third.
....with club sauce.

I live in Cleveland, and have a degree in Music, so I'm a little bit of a rock and roll snob. Never feel guilty about listening to Boston. They may not be asskicking like ACDC or Zepplin, but they were solid musicians and pioneers in the field of multi-track recording. "More than a Feeling" is, in my opinion, the template for properly multi-tracked guitar.

My guilty pleasures:
Michelle Branch "A Drop in the Ocean"
Trio "DaDaDa" and "Anna - Letmeinletmeout"
Animal Cannibals (a Hungarian rap group) "Hazafelé Az Út Veszélyes"

First off: You have excellent taste in music. I absolutely love the Who (have you noticed that my avatars are always of The Who?), Queen, AC/DC, led zeppelin, and the other bands you listed.

I like Boston's "more than a feeling" but that is just me, I don't really think its embarrassing or anything. I think everyone here can probably say that they have rocked out to the Final Countdown with their best GOB style dance moves, so you are not alone, lol.

Ahh, Styx... that crazy band Styx. Was Mr.Roboto really necessary? I am a person who (maybe this is my embarrassing music thing) loves concept albums like 'Tommy' from The Who, and 'The Wall' from Pink Floyd, but in my opinion, Dennis DeYoung made Styx really, well, bad with his concept album.
Fireman: Somebody wanted this place to go.

Michael: Yeah? What do you mean, arson?

Fireman: Oh, definitely the work of a flamer.

I rather enjoy the worst song ever (as voted on some pole a while back): Starship's "We Built This City"

I have a couple of Jesus Jones albums that I listen to all the time.

I like some albums by parts of other bands, like Electronic (pet shop boys+new order+smiths) and The Glove (Siouxsie's bassist + Robert Smith)...oh the glorious 80s and 90s. Cheers.

I love Yes.

I don't like their 80's (Owner of a Lonely Heart-era) or current output, but their 70's albums (The Yes Album through Going For the One) are pure gold, IMO. My friends give me a lot of flack about it, calling it "Hobbit-Rock", but I don't care.

Nothing better than a 22 minute song based on War and Peace.

I got you all beat. "I can't fight this feeling anymore. REO Speedwagon." I heard it today and was all singing along with every lyric. I'm a girl so I guess it's okay for me to listen to "chick" music, and just when I think I might be cooler than I am ...Vanessa Williams or Bette Midler comes on the radio ...I don't change the station. I listen to good music like Queen, NIN, Jimmy Eat World, and Ciara too to make up for the cheesy songs I LOVE.
Oh Boy! I got some looks on the bus cause of this!

1st off, I just happen to be sitting here proudly wearing my Styx Paradise Theater t-shirt. 8)

Second-of-ly, you guys at least have somewhat respectable guilty pleasures! I'm over here bumping Kelly Clarkson... :?

If it's Since You Been Gone, you have absolutely no reason to be embarrassed. Otherwise, you are a crappy person.

Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" and of course, Barry Manilow's "Mandy."
Yeah, like anyone would want to "R" her.

I actually saw REO Speedwagon live... and rather enjoyed the show.

Wooden Nickel-era Styx through Paradise Theater is some great music. I have a soft spot for Kilroy Was Here because it's from my favorite era of music (early 80s), but it's pretty gnarly.

Some of my guilty pleasure music: Barry Manilow's Greatest Hits, Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Welcome to the Pleasuredome," Duran Duran's "Liberty," the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack, and anything by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.

Herb Alpert is awesome. You can always find a record in perfect condition at a yard sale for 50 cents, and I have a theory. You cannot play a Herb Alpert record and not get everyone in the room to smile - even people who claim not to like it.

Oh, and "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" is one of the hottest album covers ever.

pretty much everything I listen to is considered embarrassing. I own both of Simple Plan's cds, and the first Good Charlotte one. I also have All American Rejects first cd, but I mostly bought it for "swing swing"
and I have kelly clarksons album "breakaway". (but I swear on my holy god that I don't watch american idol!)

Of course, the most embarrassing song I'll admit I like is...never mind...you'll all think I'm a teeny bopper
