Last gig, next gig, best gig?

Hear anything good at the Wellness Convention?

Postby so's your face » October 3rd, 2007, 3:11 pm

figured with the next gig, i should revist this because i think it's very fitting here:

last gig:
laurie berkner, thought the kids would love it... they cried. :?

best gig:
best gig: they might be giants show when the power went out and they played acoustic in the dark and sent everyone away for an hour while the generator came and finished the show at about 2:00 am.

and next gig:
THE BLUE MAN GROUP! not the support group, the performers who are actually painted blue! we're seeing them in november in columbus for 2 reasons:
A. my wife really likes them
B. no self respecting (or self loathing) AD fan should let them pass through town without seeing the show based on principle alone.

Last gig:

Last night, I saw AlexisonFire, Norma Jean, and Saosin at Revolution in Ft. Lauderdale.
Contrary to what I thought, I actually had a really great time.
Went with the girlfriend who is into all that hardcore/post-hardcore/screamo stuff and we ran into a couple of friends.
Spent the majority of the time drinking and watching the Emo kids kill each other in the pit.
So yeah, I would definitely go to another one of those shows in the future despite the fact my ears are still ringing.

Next gig:

Going to Studio A in Downtown Miami to watch this band called MonoMono put on this epic Halloween bash on the 27th.
Buddha Gonzales and George "/bleep-ing" Clinton will be there.
Good times are sure to be had.

Best gig:

Tool, King Crimson, Tomahawk, Melvins, Meshuggah

Last: Viva la Bands last night. I really only went for GWAR. They definitely are one of the bands you have to see before you die, the ultimate shock rock band. My shirt was white when I went, now it looks like something I should wear to a Grateful Dead concert. My face was all blue. Fake bodily fluids EVERYWHERE.

One of my friends wanted to see Cradle of Filth, who was up next, so we stayed for that. I just don't get the appeal of black/death metal. Yeah, there was good musicianship by the guitarists and drummer, but the songs, and Dani Filth himself are just terrible.

Next: Don't have one lined up as of yet.

Best: Les Claypool & His Fancy Band

Last: A Storm of Light, Mastodon, and Neurosis

A Storm of Light was tolerable. Mastodon was incredible. They did pretty much every song I would want to see live, except for Megalodon and Cut You Up with a Linoleum Knife (which I don't think they do live). The tightest band I've ever seen. Plus, I never realized how much Troy did on bass, he's really good. Then Neurosis. Don't really know them that well, only recognized the last song. It was weird. They were kind of boring and repetitive, so I was fighting yawning, but they were obscenely loud, so even with earplugs that kept me up.

Next: Dan Deacon at the Whitney Museum on February 8th.

This isn't my next gig, but I just found out that Radiohead's ticket site assigned me seats in the second row orchestra. I'm ecstatic right now.

But the last gig I went to was (man, it's been awhile!) The New Pornographers in October. Next gig is Phantom Planet next week. Then hopefully The Dirtbombs in April. Woo!

Saw Band of Horses last night.
They were pretty amazing.
The venue itself was pretty badass and I met a lot of cool people.
And yes, by cool I meant drunk.
And by people I meant ladies.
And by met I meant made out.
