#119: "Best Man for the GOB" 4/4/04

From whence it came

Postby Touchlamp » March 4th, 2006, 5:09 pm

Have people noticed that when Tobias is on stage before he performs a woman walks by and looks towards Tobias. Its the same woman that is the waitress at Klimpys in Public Relations. Does this have some meaning? It has to! Nothing is in vain on Arrested Development! Any Ideas??
I got the information.

The waitress at Klimpy's has had several appearances on the show. She also plays Loretta in Out on a Limb and Hand to God. Just a frequently recurring extra, I guess - we've found a few extras in several other episodes, too (eg. the guy with the afro who appeared in the "Big Yellow Joint" scene in Pier Pressure was also a crowd member during the Cornballer promotion cutaway in Bringing up Buster).

I never realized it's the same girl from Out on a Limb I feel stupid
Yeah I've noticed the afro guy. Plus in the 3rd season theres a fat kid with curly hair who is yearbook picture and is in Making a Stand sitting in the thearte near where Maeby and Mort Meyers are standing while watching a test screening of Maebys horror movie.
I got the information.

Personally, I like the coat Tobias is wearing when he is talking to Michael in the freezing cold board room.

It seems to me that when Lucille tells the Wife Of G.O.B. that she's "like the daughter I always wanted", this is an extremely subtle reference (due to the likelihood of the viewer attributing this comment to Lucille's general callousness and critical opinion of Lindsay) to Lindsay's having been adopted. I also think that Lindsay's original name, "Nellie Sitwell", could be a reference to her character Nell on Ally McBeal.

Just noticed that Michael and GM are holding their fishing rods when Buster says "off the hook". And Gob later gives Michael a hook punch. And of course, Buster and his hook appear in S2.

Or I could be reading a little too much into it.

Ooh, I never caught the holding their fishing rods thing. Nice catch! (no pun intended)
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words- "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I never caught that first one either. The last two there are probably reaching a bit though

I think even the first one is a bit of a reach... around.

No, I think that's exactly the kind of thing they'd do.

Yeah, the first one seems pretty deliberate. I doubt the other 2 are direct references to that line, but there is definitely a hook motif throughout the show. I think someone listed them all off once, but I have no idea where that is.

GOB tells Ira "You killed Skipper..." by mistake instead of "Stripper".

Also there's two references to Beef Consomme: GOB calls Michael "Hermano" and tells Buster "hey at least you finally got hit in the face"...or something like that.
