Marry me.

As mentioned in the Things That Annoy You Thread, I have yet to choose a British team. If anyone has any recommendations, go ahead. I am preferably looking for a team that (obviously) plays well, has integrity and minimal ego, and whose fans don't deserve to be socked in the face. Pretty jerseys would definitely be a plus, as I don't have a soccer team whose jersey I am proud to wear yet (unless you count the Azzurri, but those shirts get overworn in my neck of the woods).

2 days to go to The World Cup...WOOOOO!!!!!

5 days to go until I travel to Germany...WOOOOO!!!!

10 days to go until the Spain vs Tunisia match I got a ticket for...WOO(you get the idea).

And ett, may I suggest Holland. They have cool jerseys, although the integrity and egos are questionable. I'll be secretly supporting England, without drawing attention to it in any way. The last thing I want is a beating, wether it be by police or disgruntled German fans.

Come On Ivory Coast !!!!!!!

NO! Not another international team! I've already got like five!!! (I had actually been hoping to be wooed from either side of the Arsenal-ManU rivalry - because there is one, right?)

I totally want to be in Germany right now... I was invited by my German "family" to visit them (since they can't visit me this year) but I'm working. Otherwise I'd load up on face paint and learn the art of football fandom.

Oh, but thanks for the reminder, I should probably choose my backup teams before World Cup starts. So far(other than my #1 team, Italy) I've got England, Spain, Mexico, and Germany. Ivory Coast isn't such a bad idea... I noticed that my team list was quite Eurocentric and was trying to find some African/Asian/South American teams.

Oh, and German police won't beat you... but they might be very curt.

Germany beat Costa Rica!!
And in other World Cup-related news, the junk store that had World Cup pins in the window doesn't actually want to sell them to me, but I did find a cool Italian soccer league pin and a Juventus lanyard, for $1 each! There were so many Champions League (and leagues of that nature) things, and all for cheap!
In addition, a nearby restaurant is having special World Cup meals and one of them is some sort of German-related eating experience. You have no idea how badly I want to eat that.

What exactly is a German eating experience? I would have thought it involved sausages, pickled cabbage and plenty of beer... sounds alright actually.

And yes, Shaka is indeed a legend. He wasn't even supposed to play, but the first-choice guy got injured on the way to the game. That's the biggest result in T&T's history, but England will hammer them.

I'm thinking that's what it might involve. I'm also keeping my fingers for curry ketchup, dijon mustard, and fresh bread to go with the sausage as well as some other German delights (even though outside of Germany, people seem to be all about the Bavarian food and not so much about the other-parts-of-Germany food) and I'm hoping that the beer in question is Kolsch, not Pils. Is that asking too much?

By the way, I'm neither German nor much of a beer drinker, but this Budweiser thing is just dumb. Going to the World Cup in Germany and getting served Bud is kind of like going to your Italian grandmother's house and seeing her open up a bottle of Prego sauce. Maybe the tourists wouldn't be able to handle the awesomeness of German beer, and FIFA is trying to prevent an onslaught of tourists who've just finished their fourth beer and are looking to chow down on a brat, even though it's half past midnight?

Also, Italy plays their first game tomorrow (while I'm at work) and I bought myself a very cute Germany T-shirt. Italy merch is still to come.

I belive Mexico is playing today?

Yeah, Mexico did well. Good side.

I'm looking forward to sampling the German beer. I always thought Budweiser tasted very soapy or something, I can't really explain it, but it's not nice at all.

Like someone's crushed a load of Paracetamol into it? I know that taste. Like those dissolvable painkillers *retch*

Chewable Gravol beats them all. In grossness.

LovePump, it all depends on where in Germany you are, because there is much beer to be tasted. The Germans love their beer, in case you couldn't tell from the fact that every other beverage is carbonated to emulate beerbubbles. Bitburger is the most popular brand in the country, it's got a very bitter taste but no aftertaste. Kölsch is a type of beer that's only brewed around Cologne - it has a very light, fresh taste to it but a bit of an aftertaste. I quite like it, as far as beer goes. There are many brands of it, easier found near Cologne and in the West - Früh (probably the best), Gilden, Gaffel, and I can't remember any others. There's also Weissbrau - it's white beer and that's all I know about it. Have fun!

Aussie Aussie Aussie! :D

It's a real good time to be an Australian:

- 3-1 win against Japan, ranked 24 places higher than us.
- Second ever World Cup appearance.
- First ever goals scored in a WC (the first two to hero Tim Cahill).
- All 3 of our goals came in the last 8 minutes of the match.
- America were thrashed 3-0 by the Chezc Republic.

Woo! I am definitely considering Australia as yet another backup team, especially since I might be going there in two years... congrats on all the accomplishments.

By the way, since the US just got their
bleeps
handed to them by the Czechs, do you think they'll be angry and looking for a win against Italy to make up for it, or will they have their tails between their legs and are sure to lose another game?

i think the US will be plenty angry and should have more effort against italy, but i just have a feeling that they'll lose a close game.

i saw the australia-japan game during school, what a fantastic comeback. and cahill has still got to be on such a high from those two goals, hopefully it won't affect the aussies in their next game.

Oh my god! Did anyone else just see Argentina destroy Serbia and Montenegro?

What about the second goal, best ever?

I'm scared at how good they were!
