Who's throwing the company softball game?

Postby ett » July 1st, 2006, 1:47 pm

I also feel sad. Especially since I had to watch the game via Google score updates.

Dear France,
Hello, how are you? I hope there have been no riots lately because that's never fun. Your lemonade, by the by, sucks but I won't hold that against you because you have done a few good things for the world (such as Michael Vartan). Thank you for beating Brazil and Portugal.

Now go get some rest because the Azzurri plan on kicking your ass.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Love,
ett.

Italy has some good lemonade. And some good lemon gelati. Mmm... Italy.

After that long, long game I really just have one question: What kind of person headbutts someone in the chest?!? That was just weird!
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words- "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

That was not only one of the dirtiest things I've ever seen an athlete do, but also one of the most incredible displays of human stupidity. I was kind of hoping that Lewis Black would show up and do his thing.

That said, I love Zidane for what he did. He might as well have handed the Cup to Lippi on his way out.

I am very very pleased with WE WON THE CUP!!! And I could totally go on and on, but I shan't. I'll just say that this is the first section of The-OP I checked today, and I usually work my way down.

What Materazzi said to Zidane before the headbutt:

" I slept with your mother last night.... Your mother is a f**king Algerian terrorist whore!"

Zidane's mother, who he is very close to, was taken to hospital about a week ago and is very seriously ill.

I'm not trying to condone what he did, just putting it into context. Well done Italy, though. They kept their nerve in the shoot-out, and that's what it's all about.

Many rumours are going around about what Materazzi said... but still, even if I was insulted that badly, I'd want to go out in style.

In addition, why do people not seem to think this is a big deal?

He had technique, I'll admit. He probably watched a lot of bulls or something.

By the way, I don't have an URL for you guys but yesterday my brother came across a flash game in which you're Zidane and must headbutt as many Materazzis as possible before getting your red card. It's really quite funny. (Heck, it made me less mad that he would deign to pull me away from How I Met Your Mother which is like candy)

Too bad that it is Zidanes headbutt that gets al the attention in stead of the Italian players. All the medias focus on that little incident instead of Italy.
I dont care what Materazzi said or did to Zidane, he should have gotten used to that. It's all Zidanes fault. Its quite normal to insult each other and try to influence your opponents mentality during matches( I have experienced it myself). Forza Italia!
ps. Pirlo or Cannavaro should have been named WC's best player, not Zidane. But Zidane is still a brilliant player and I dont think of his career as destroyed and his memory ruined just because of this little incident. What then should I think of my hero Roy Keane?

Thank you. It seems like absolutely no one on the Internet agrees with me. So many people are actually trying to justify his actions - since when do we say "Well, violence is okay if you have a good enough reason"?
Zidane winning the golden ball was a slap in the face, I agree, especially compared to Cannavaro's seriousness and sportsmanship (I'm not only a fan because I'm a girl - the way he plays is just incredible).

By the way, I haven't been able to find out for sure whether or not Buffon was voted the tournament's best goalie. Can anyone confirm or deny?

I'm not sure about Buffon, although someone told me Lehmann had got it.

I completely agree about Cannavaro. The man is a genius, and I hope to see him in England next year, even though Madrid is more likely.

I also agree that Zidane was completely out of order, but so too was Materazzi. I think they should both be dealt with equally by FIFA. On the one hand players promote the 'Kick Racism Out Of Football' campaign, but once on the pitch they get away with these kinds of slurs...There's no place for it in football.

I'm not as knowledgeable on football as I may appear to be, but doesn't Madrid have a lot of players who are famous and good, but also quite full of themselves (cough*Beckham*cough)? If any of that rubs off on Cannavaro I will cry. In the shower, holding an article that he wrote, calling out "Why, Fabio, Why?"
