Mr. Show's involvement

Postby littlesquish89 » July 5th, 2005, 10:54 pm

I just picked up Seasons 1 and 2 of Mr. Show, and I am not dissapointed at all. But now I'm also noticing, from the help of other posters, that a lot of the guys from Mr. Show make appearances in AD. David Cross obviously. Bob Odenkirk was the marriage counselor who turned into an actor. And Jay Johnston, a member of the Mr. Show cast, plays the now gay cop on AD. I just thought that was cool, how two of my favorite shows are related.

Didn't Jerry Minor play the other gay cop? 'Cause he was on Mr Show before he went on SNL.

I dunno, though.

Yep. Jerry Minor was Officer Carter.
Yeah, like anyone would want to "R" her.

Also, John Ennis plays the guy who hires Tobias as a guard. I believe that may be all of them, though I wouldn't be surprised if Paul F. Tompkins or Brian Posehn comes on this year sometime.

Sorry to bring up this old thread again, but I just realized how talented David Cross really is. He's genuinely hilarious, he can act, and he can sing. I was blown away by his singing roles in Mr. Show. It seems to me that his role as Tobias is almost like his role on Mr. Show, he's always changing costumes, changing accents, trying new things, it's really cool to see him use some of the skills he got from Mr. Show in AD.

Sorry about the double post, but there's this really funny Mr. Show skit that everyone keeps talking about, but I don't remember wat it's called. What season is it, and what's the name? Something "Call-in show".

Oh GOD. The Pre-Taped Call-In Show. From Season 3, "The Return of the Curse of the Creature's Ghost". I love that sketch SO much. Also a big fan of the Car Wash Change Thief Action Squad from Season 4.

Damn, I just bought season 4, not 3. That's the only one they had at Circuit City, Sam Goody only had Season 1 &2 (which I already have), and FYE didn't have anything.

Worry not. Season Four is still awesome. I think it's better than Season Three, really. I think the next to last episode has some of my favorite sketches ever, too.

I've seen 5 episodes, and so far it's awesome. I really liked the Fat Camp vs. the Dalai Llama skit, Pallies, all the news stuff is hilarious, and the Hitler Clones. It really seems like they're a lot better at this then they were in Season 1 & 2.

Indeed. The saddest part about Mr. Show is that they stopped without ever hitting any decline whatsoever. Also, The Story of Everest is awesome, too.

I really thought that the whole investigating reporters thing was so funny. I felt so bad for David when he found out it was a hoax after all...and the actor trainers were hilarious also. Especially when he smeared peanut butter all over their faces, or that skit about the blind people. Mr. Show is awesome.

EDIT: Do you think I should have laughed when David Cross slit the fat kid's throat?

That would be just grand. Brian Posehn is fantastic, no?

tobias singing

Postby SteveHolt! » July 31st, 2005, 1:43 pm

Something I meant to mention on the boards when I first noticed it about 6 months ago: a lot of Tobias' 'songs' have very close melodies to ones his characters in Mr. Show sing...like 'Temocil' has a similar melody to a song he sang as a hillbilly character in the first season of Mr. Show, showing Senator Tankerbell something called storying, with a puppet called Limber Legs. Anyone remember this?
Tobias just bursts out into song every now and then, and I think Mr. Cross has a few "stock" melodies he uses over and over. On his comedy albums I've noticed this too.
But now I've said too much...
...check your lease, man, 'cause you're living in Bleep City!

HAHA! I remember Limber Legs...Hmmm...yeah it does kindof sound like the Teamocil Song.

Ol' Limberlegs went walking down old Cherry Street (?)

Yeah and then he kindof howls Limberlegs like Teamocil. But the funny thing is David Cross can actually sing very well, like in Jeepers Creepers and The Joke.
