Spoiler Policy

Postby editor » March 16th, 2005, 8:23 pm

TheMagician started a thread about the spoiler policy. If you have any opinions about it, please weigh in, but here's my initial thoughts:

* Any information in your message which gives away a future plot point, character, or line is a spoiler.

* Some people prefer to watch the show without knowing any spoilers, including avoiding show promos, outtakes, video clips, and plot summaries.

* Please respect other people's right to enjoy the show spoiler-free, and indicate spoilers as a courtesy to them.

* Some topics are self-evident spoilers. Example: Future episode threads, or obvious titles like "upcoming guest stars" or "spoilers". If in doubt, please label your post "Spoiler."

* If you are posting in a "normal" topic, please cover all spoilers using the spoiler code. You can click the "Spoiler" button in the compose window, or tag it just like bold. For example, you may type (without spaces): [ spoiler ] text to hide [ / spoiler ]

* You can read spoiler text by dragging your mouse and highlighting the spoiler area.

Try here: Cornballs make good snacks.

Sounds good to me!

Just to be clear, though, if we're posting in a thread about an episode that hasn't aired yet, it's assumed that what we're saying is spoiler, so we don't need to tag it, correct?
We may pick on each other, get into little scrapes, call each other names and occasionally steal from each other, but that’s because we're family.

If we start implementing the spoiler policy now, we need to cross-post this announcement to other forums. Spoiler information frequently gets brought up outside of the Episodes forum.

It's like editor knew exactly what side effects the spoilers were giving you!

Nope, you can quote spoilers and they stay spoilers.

But in this business of show, you must have the heart of an angel, and the hide...of an elephant.

Read the dates, this thread is over two years old.

As for spoiler policy, I think they're allowed in the general forum, but as for episode discussion, it's still a bit of a taboo to post things about episodes-to-come in them (eg. mentioning stuff from Development Arrested in the Pilot thread), mainly because, even though AD is over, there are people out there who are still discovering it. The episode discussion threads are linked directly on The OP's main episode pages, so it's quite possible the discussion will be viewed by casual readers who MAY not have seen past the episode they're reading.

So, to summarise: Use Spoiler tags in the Episode Discussion threads if you're talking about episodes that come after it. But, other than that, they seem to be acceptable now.

It's also nice to spoiler tag spoilers from other shows or movies you might be talking about.
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words- "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.
