its not actually a real contingent in the contract, however they did voice that they wanted to have him. also, if the contract was officially declined or taken off the table because they "knew" it was over, they would have to make an announcement about it. so although mitch has said he wont be back, the contract doesnt stipulate that he has to be there, it was really just a statement made by the showtime president saying that he wanted mitch if he would have AD but its not manditory, who knows. like i say a lot, it obviously looks bad, but if anything was 100% official, we would find out not through an "e" interview or any other interview, it would be an official staement by either showtime, 20th century fox or imagine saying that the deal has been taken off the table or it has been declined. none of that has happened yet, only people saying that mitch is off, none saying what showtime and the others have done yet

No, actually, they'd only have to make an announcement if there WAS the deal. The reason everyone kept insisting the deal had not been made at Showtime and Imagine was because it was contingent on Mitch. Because it was never finalized, there was never anything to announce.

As much as I do NOT want to hear that the show is done... all of this yes, then no, then maybe business is honestly taking its toll. I hate admitting this, but as time goes by I am finding that I care less and less...just to get sucked back in by a glimmer of hope...just to have that yanked away. It sure would be easier on me if there was a simple Yes or No answer from anyone in the know... will there or won't there...

I don't even know if that makes sense to anyone but myself.

No, I know what you mean. I would've rathered them to say after the final ep "Hey, it's over now". Because after that final episode I'd pretty much accepted that it WAS over, but then all the rumours started and it just killed me when we heard Mitch was out. I'd love for the show to come back but after what happened last time I just can't let myself believe any rumours. I have some hope for a movie but I'm not basing my excitement for the next few years on it.

Another reason to be cautiously optimistic. FOX added a bunch of their shows to iTunes, including Stacked, which is in the same boat as AD ('cancelled') but has not even a fraction of the online fanbase as AD.

Only thing that makes sense as to why AD wasn't added is because some kind of negotiating of the rights must still be going on. If the show was as done as dinner, they'd be using this chance to make one final cash grab on the show.

I've never understood why people around here love straws so much, but you all are grabbing at them like crazy!

Sorry, but it's gone.

Doesn't the fact that NBC has officially picked up Tambor's "20 Good Years" allow us to finally come to terms with AD's death?

If AD is renewed (yeah I know, not gonna happen, but if), he has to drop out of 20 Good Years, so no, that means nothing really.

It has been finished for months now. Let's just get behind the cast & crew in all their future projects. I see AD like a Pakistani training camp... It's time for them to go forth and practice what they have mastered.

ok, we have all been just dancing around this news for the whole time. its just been a battle of those who think AD still has some life, and those who dont, but no one has actually looked really into the truth or un-truth of this news. does anyone have any concrete evidence as to if we should believe what stuff said or not

20th Century has already confirmed that AD is not returning for a fourth season in a press release. I mean, what is there more to say?

Here's the link to the official press release.

FOX has already announced what comedies they're going to carry on to next season, and AD is not one of them.

no, i agree that its not going back to fox, there is no doubt of that, and however, nowhere in the official statement (although the article itself mentions it) of the showtime deal being officially off the table, or that it had been declined. all they said was that its not returning for a fourth season "for now" now that is obviously a slim chance. we know it wont be on fox tv, but 20th century fox didnt officially say anything about the showtime deal being still open. and unless its declined or taken off the table, andthing (no matter how slim the chances are) could happen till the deal is expired on june 15th. more importantly, this says nothing to the truth of the "stuff" rumor. someone needs to e-mail stuff magazine

Why does Showtime have to make an 'official' announcement?? They're not really obliged to say anything if the deal fell through (from what I gather anyway).

The only reason there's any uncertainty is because Ron Howard was reportedly still shopping the show after Hurwitz bailed (w/ hurwitz on as a consultant) and David Nevins said to not write the obit just yet.

It's obviously not coming back to FOX, I'd say there's about a 5% chance Showtime picks up the show, but we'll find out before June 15th for sure, hopefully sooner than later. Until then it's not over, so everyone who keeps chiming in telling everyone to get over it and that it's official needs to stop posting in these threads, cause it's getting pretty damn annoying.
