welcome to America, Chelpo!

Sucks to hear about the roaches and no AC...the humidity is a real bleep lately.

Lost power last night, no ac either. That was annoying. At least I had my (shameless plug) iPod touch to watch "Sunny" on. If only this thing had a fan built in.

Get on it, Apple.

Thanks, byron. Other than the heat (and really, it's the humidity that's killing me) and the roaches and the general suckiness that is the first little while after moving somewhere new, I'm enjoying myself.

Seriously, though, as soon as I get myself a job I'm giving my notice and finding an apartment without cockroaches, or at the very least, with a/c.

In the mean time, I'm going fan and Raid shopping tomorrow.
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words- "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Where are you living now Chelpo?

Cockroaches terrify me. I hope my place in Japan doesn't have any, or any of the venomous, long-living centipedes that are pretty common in Japan (look up "mukade" in google image search)

I'm quite annoyed with my friend and the fact that all the drama between us at the moment is resulting in me still being awake at 4:30.

I blame it all on Russia and its crappy cell-phone service.

I am currently living in an un-airconditioned, cockroach infested apartment in Brooklyn. The area and the apartment itself are actually quite nice.

I was terrified of the cockroaches at first, too, but I've become somewhat hardened in the last week. Not to say I don't avoid the kitchen and the bathroom and sleep with the lights on, but when I see one skittering across the floor there's definitely less panic than there used to be and more "where's my shoe so I can stomp on it?" I've been debating in my mind which is worse: the cockroaches in this apartment or the pingpong ball-sized spiders in my last apartment. Individually there's no question the spiders were worse. But I never found more than 2 or 3 of those per week in my bedroom.

Those mukade, though... those look worse than spiders and cockroaches combined. Good luck getting a mukade-free apartment. And good luck with your friend (cell phones, especially cheap ones, were not made for international calls, I'm discovering) And good luck moving in general. When are you leaving?

Ooo, New York. What exciting pursuits are you getting up to there?

I guess you can't become a true New Yorker if you haven't lived in a roach-infested place.

I leave July 26th. I can't wait! I should find out about my apartment sometime pretty soon, not that I can't ask about them in general already, since apparently all the Kobe JETs live in the same two buildings. Also, I guess there are ways (poisonous powders) to keep the mukade out if they are a problem.

Well, so far my exciting pursuits consist of searching out said roach-infested apartment, going to a lot of movies, exploring (ie. wandering around, trying not to buy anything from all the cool shops I find) and I saw the play "August: Osage County" which was absolutely amazing.

Next step: finding a job before I have to pay July rent for Cockroach Castle (and before I get my credit card bill).

Ooh, July 26th is getting close. I have also resorted to poisons (although mine are in pressurized cans, not powders). So far, it seems to be working at least in my bedroom (my roommate has a dog, so I don't want to spray anywhere else).

People who wear Pajamas in public and think its okay. Especially people who wear their dirty slippers with the PJs.

People who like bands that are ubscure but stop listening to the bands because they become popular.
I got the information.

My mind... For some reason it keeps getting insanely stupid songs stuck in my head and I have to listen to them all day (like those stupid credit report commercial songs) :(
Why do there have to be puppets like Frank?

The New York Mets

They did it to me again and I let it happen. Baseball now takes the backburner to hockey. If my Sharks underachieve again I'll have to give up on sports entirely and move into some sort of cavern.

You should become a Phillies fan. Expectations are always so low that you are shocked by nothing except lack of disappointment.

And why aren't you an A's or Giants fan, SJ? Or should I say, "San Jose!"

I'm gonna drop a bombshell on you here; I'm Canadian!
Bet you didn't see that one coming. Honestly, I picked the Sharks when I was a very young lad because their jerseys were nice and I picked the Mets because they're on tv a lot in this area and I just sort of got attached. I take a lot of heat for not cheering for the Jays. Either way, my first loyalty is to the Sharks and, frankly, I probably should live there. I still wouldn't cheer for the Giants because I do have some standards.

Sounds a lot like why I'm a Mariners fan. Started following baseball around 76-77, and while I was already locked in as a Phillies fan, I thought I needed to pick an American league team as well. Hey, here was a fresh new team that just joined the league, with a cool looking trident on their hat.

From what I've read it won't be getting a proper finale and it's being replaced with Family Guy spinoff, "The Cleveland Show". Damn you, universe!
