#207: Switch Hitter

Why, Tracy? Why?

i dunno

Postby MonkeyMe » January 17th, 2005, 11:29 am

i didn't like this episode, i thought it was the worst yet. maybe because they used the same joke (that the house is crappy) like, six times in the episode. it had an adequate amount of jokes, but... i dunno, they just didn't make me laugh. although Lindsay whacked out on Temocil, combing her hair with the phone was funny.
i really didn't like the fact that ron howard did the Temocil side effects, he didn't do them well.

i did, however, change my Quote to one of the 3-4 funny jokes. i also liked "do you also carry a spare bowl of candy beans?"
i love how G.O.B. calls Jelly beans Candy beans... or is that a brand name?

so this was the 2nd time that gob's had some guy on his lap. could this be leading to something in the future? that perhaps gob is gay, and tobias is actually straight?

Yeah, part of what's been bothering me is that this season they seem to rely a bit more on formula. The "Come on," blue paint, crappy house just seem to be reused constantly. But there were still great moments. I loved GM and Michael's kiss, "salad dressing", "replacement candy bean", and of course Maeby!

i really didn't like the fact that ron howard did the Temocil side effects, he didn't do them well.

Really? That was another of my favorite moments. I think he was intentionally rushing through them like a commercial.

I don't think this was the best or worst episode, but it felt great to see the whole family again! We shouldn't have to wait nearly a month for an episode!

I didn't like that it was on during Jason's acceptance speech, luckily I started flipping channels just in time to see him win, but then I missed five or so minutes of Arrested Development. It's almost as bad as when I missed Björk singing at the Olympics. Good thing I was taping Arrested for some reason. ;)

My main concerns with the second season thus far have been: a lack of the George Michael interest in Maeby; too much Oscar; too much Annyong (almost any is too much in my opinion); too much Ann; a lack of old Buster dynamics (oedipus complex, prevalant massages, and a love interest); and Lindsay's new look.

However, Tobias is shining as he seems to be one of the only characters that hasn't changed a lot in the 2nd season. He still wants to be an actor, and the homosexual references haven't left.

In this episode, his musings at the watercooler building up to his interview where he gets passed over were hilarious. I thought Tobias stole this episode.

I also enjoyed Teamocil's spelling, considering we don't know how it's spelled when it's first spoken in "Best Man for the GOB." If you recall the lyrics to Dr. Funke's 100% Good-Time Family Band Solution (sp): "There's no 'I' in 'Teamocil,' at least not where you think....Teamocil....I always thought I knew you well."

Also, according to Tobias, "Sadly, Teamocil was taken off the market. The sense of wellness it created in relationships was the first sign of complete pituitary shutdown." We know for a fact that Wife of GOB and Lindsay have taken it, but who else has?

There's no 'I' in 'Team' or 'Teamocil.'

Remember, Wife of Gob also exemplified a sense of team spirit by joining Tobias on stage at the wellness convention.

I like how GOB's missing tooth is visible every time he's had a collision, like when he hit's The Wall.

Teamocil's curbed sex drive also explains why GOB and his wife never consummated their marriage, or, in his words, "seal the deal."

i love that they re-use the same jokes (the come on! thing is hilarious)... i think its cool to have some "inside jokes" throughout the series for fans.

i do have to admit, i chuckle *a bit* whenever i see blue paint smeared across the wall. but the tooth thing, that was like, 15 episodes ago, give it a rest.

its like the simpsons, the first season was funny (back in the day) and they found the good formula almost immediately, in the simpsons and in AD, but it seems AD is having "simpsons Syndrome" (a good show goes into a gradual downward decline by re-using jokes repeatedly or dumming down the characters noticeably)

don't get me wrong, 98% of the episodes are really good, and im sure they'll smarten up, but if I have to wait another month for an episode of this caliber, i may have to start watching the last half of "cold case".

P.S.

Ann 2.0 isnt funny. at all. not even remotely.

It's the sophmore slump...a lot of shows struggle in the second season...especially if the first season was excellent, as was Season 1 of AD.

Don't worry, Monkey Me.

this episode was not as good as others, but it had some great lines. i still can't get over candy beans. anyways, i'm very pleased with the second season so far. gob's expensive suits still make me cry and so does the charlie brown depressed walk. classic gags.

I have to agree, HeyHermano. The first season was just brilliant so it's a high standard to meet. Plus, it was so novel. This season, they're trying to find the right mix of new stuff and old formula. I don't know, something just feels a tad disjointed about the episodes. They just don't seem to flow quite as well.

Nonetheless, there were still many funny moments. "You could go downtown"? Classic.

my second viewing of this episode was MUCH more enjoyable than the first.

to borrow a term from music writers, this one's a grower, and i think it's a microcosm of the show, the more you put into it, the more it rewards you.

ps, the episodes are available on p2p networks even before they are broadcast on the west coast... is this hurting the show? i think they must realize that fewer and fewer ppl are "appointment TV" viewers with TiVo and filesharing out there... hence the release of the DVDs! I want to be able to watch episodes repeatedly, but I want to keep it afloat. Many viewers of family guy watched them ad-free (downloaded or TiVoed) repeatedly, but were shocked when the broadcast was cancelled. This must never happen to us ADdicts
