#208: Queen for a Day

Why, Tracy? Why?

Postby Trent England » January 24th, 2005, 2:55 am

Bollocks! This was a fabulous episode because it was reminiscent of the first season. Lucille is back to her scheming self, George Michael is once again insecure, Tobias is back with the gay undertones. Barry and Lucille 2 being back? You all didn't like this one??? What? You want more Annyong or Ann?

Did anyone else see the car salesman parallel? We see Michael buying a car in this one, and then when he's talking to Buster about upgrading and getting something flashy, he mentions being in a Lucile, as if saying something like, "..belong in an Oldsmobile" etc.

I'm with you, Trent. I thought this was a very good episode. It's a real tribute to the writers that they can give great moments to so many different characters in just one episode.

A Mighty Windbreaker

Postby Mr. Manager » January 24th, 2005, 8:06 am

I liked how Michael asked if the windbreaker came with the Corvette. A present for George Michael, perhaps?

"My schedule, however, is as open as my relationship with my wife, so, why don’t we pair up? And-and hit the town together! Oh. I’ll be your wingman. (Laughs.) Even if it means me taking a chubby, I will suck it up!" - Tobias

Greatest Tobias quote yet! Poor Tobias is always saying the wrong things. LOL. Reminds me of tha quote a while back. (Badly Paraphrased)

Publicist - "There aren't too many good looking strait men left in this town"

Tobias - "Well that counts ME out. [awkward pause] She said Single, you said single, right?"

One of the great things about that line is Buster's reaction to when Tobias says "so why don't we pair up?" We're so used to seeing Michael, Lindsay, GOB, Lucille, etc. reacting to his double entendres, but I can't remember ever seeing Buster reacting to Tobias' conversational gaffes before.

(I'm sure there are a million examples that I am conveniently forgetting.)

Some people will never be satisifed. I think it was as good an episode as possible with so little Maeby.

There were so many fun moments like AskJeeves, "Pop Pop gets a Grisham."

Maybe I'm missing the "Blue Cross" line... is that a reference to a "blue" David "Cross"? Or something else.

Trent - "Being in a Lucille" was brilliant. Although I shudder the thought of either Lucille!

Yeah, this was definitely one of the better ones. I think part of the reason you might have found the pacing off was that if this was a traditional sitcom, it was like a collection of lots of "B" storylines: buying a car, Maeby's job, Tobias's Queen Mary, Lucille 2's vertigo, Buster/Starla dating, GOB getting fired. The "A" storyline of losing control of the company wasn't really a storyline of its own--it sort of wove in and out of the "B" storylines.

Great Episode, the George Michael/Maeby storyline alone, put the episode over the top for me. Not to mention the Tobias storyline, and the return of the Hot Cops.

I can't wait for next weeks episode.

I loved this episode, especially after how worried I was after last week's. Not that last week's was horrible or anything, but this one definitely restored my full faith in the show. I love the devious exchange between the two socialite Lucilles, the awkward relationship between George Michael and Maeby, and the return of the Hot Cops. This episode had a lot of recurring themes from season one, which could hardly be considered a bad thing. Plus Gob ****ing Lucille Two, how could you not love the irony?

I absolutely loved the return of Lucille 2 as well as the cups bulging out of the cupboards.

Hey, cool, never thought of that! Although I think Michael was actually wearing it... and with his windswept hair and the bug on his face, he had that '80s look & looked like Lucille 2. Hilarious.

Queen for a day

Postby ARods » January 26th, 2005, 4:45 pm

Did anyone catch all the Veal references? First, George Micheal mentions he's getting a ride from Ann's parents, the Veals. Then Michael tells him not to get "penned" up with them. When Michael offers to take GM to school in the stair car he says it's "cramped" in there. A little later Michael tell Gob that they're getting "jammed" up. Another example of the brilliance of this show.
