Tobias

I think Tobias is a great character on the show. Never Nudes are cool, despite what Lindsay may think!

I like Tobias' "ac-TOR" and his line delivery, but my favorite Tobias is actually when he was silent, when he was prowling in the lawyer's house, all "Mission: Impossible"-like.

Plus I like David Cross a lot, ever since I saw him as Donnie on "Just Shoot Me."

I like the prop for Tobias "How to be a Man" book, I think that is what it was called. And I liked his wig when they had the flashback to his family singing for pharmecutical companies.

I don't like when he's absent from episodes, but the show's so great that it doesn't suffer. I wonder if they have so much great stuff otherwise that they have to edit out some Tobias scenes, even.

I heard a rumor that he might not be coming back for the second season, but that was a long time ago. Maybe since people like him a lot they changed their minds about that? Anyone know?

The book was Acting: Like A Man.

Tobias is my favorite character. I love all the "Tobias is gay" jokes.

There's just so many principals on the show, and so few minutes per episode. Maybe they should make the show an hour. Or two. Or 24.

I think there was an article about how Tobias was originally written as a guest spot, but David Cross was trying hard to make it a full-time part. Perhaps that's what you're thinking of? I think it's funny how so many roles started out as small guest spots, and expanded -- like George, Sr., Tobias, Barry Zucerkkorn, and Lucille Austero. Guess Maggie Lizer wasn't so impressive...

Thanks, editor. I remembered that Tobias wasn't a sure thing, but I thought it had probably fixed itself. I know that I would be maaad if he got the boot, but it certainly wouldn't stop me from watching.

And you know what else? I would kiss the writers asses if they made him eat a chicken pot piiiiiiie.

David Cross was on Comedy Central's top 100 stand ups of all time--somewhere in the 70's I think. They showed the clip about where he wants to donate his body to necrophiliacs after death, not just to "science." Who else could play a Never Nude better? Probably that would be Tobias's secret wish, anyway.

Tobias sells ring for leather daddy gear...

Postby roger_danish » May 22nd, 2004, 7:58 pm

I like the one where Tobias, in an effort to foster a common intrest with Maybe sells hi s ring for 'leather daddy' clothes, and due to a misunderstanding with the cabbie, goes to the "Gothic Asshole'.

Another one that kills me is, the way Tobias pronounces elephant in 'Pilot'.

Man, this character is funny. If he, and G.O.B weren't on the show, it wouldn't be as great as it is now.

---------------------------------

Tobias: I agree with Michael; it’s important not to tie your self-esteem to how you look or what people think of you. I mean, look at me— I’m an actor. An actor, for crying out loud. You know how much rejection I face every day? But in this business of show, you have to have the heart of an angel and the hide... of an elephant.

Lindsay: But, you’ve never actually had an audition.

Tobias: Well... excuse me! Excuse me

his way of speaking

Postby roger_danish » June 30th, 2004, 1:21 am

I like the way he says 'elephant 'in that line. It just kills me. I've even taken to saying that way myself at times.

I also like 'Public Relations' when he's running lines with Carl Weathers, he can't bring himself to say the grammatically incorrect statement 'dark alley', and says 'darkened alley' instead.

btw, at the Arrested Development's music director's website he has a link to a song he calls Tobias' Theme:

http://www.davidschwartzmusic.com/music/igetup.mp3

I don't really recognize it, but I listen to every now and again, for a Tobias fix.

David Cross is extremely funny at times, but his shticks always grow tired. His current Tobias "blue/blew" thing is getting boring fast.
