IMPORTANT - Write to FOX requesting Season 2 DVDs

Postby Kiarnit » April 25th, 2005, 12:55 am

A reader of this site wrote in with what I thought was a very good recommendation: write to FOX, ask them when the Season 2 DVDs of Arrested Development will be out, and tell them that you plan to purchase them as soon as they are available. Emphasize that you hope the S2 DVDs will be on the market as soon as possible, since you want to have plenty of time to watch them over and over again before Season 3 starts!

TV networks pay extremely close attention to the DVD sales of television shows these days, particularly ones like Arrested Development that have marginal ratings. Arrested Development's Season 1 DVDs have been doing very well. Let's convince FOX that the Season 2 DVDs and any subsequent seasons they produce are going to sell equally well.

Send snail-mail, which is usually taken the most seriously, to:

Steven Feldstein
Senior Vice President
Corporate & Marketing Communications
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment
PO Box 900
Beverly Hills, CA 90213-0900

steve.feldstein@fox.com

You can also e-mail FOX about new and upcoming DVD releases at foxdrop@4icc.com, and call them at 1-888-223-2FOX.

Alternatively, you can also send snail-mail to Peter Liguori's office, where it will no doubt be tallied by an assistant.

What I said to Mr. Feldstein follows. I by no means suggest that you copy any of this verbatim, but I'm just providing it as an example of some of the points you might hit in your own letter.

Dear Mr. Feldstein,

I wanted to write to encourage 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment to proceed with releasing Arrested Development's second season on DVD, preferably as soon as possible. At this point I've bought at least 5 copies of the Season 1 DVDs for myself and as gifts for family and friends, and I'm greatly looking forward to acquiring copies of the second season as well. My hope is that you all will release the Season 2 DVDs in plenty of time for me to rewatch all of the episodes before the third season starts up.

THERE WILL BE A THIRD SEASON, RIGHT?

If Fox cancels Arrested Development now, they will be killing the goose that lays the golden DVD eggs. Arrested Development's fan base is very devoted, and just about everyone who bought the Season 1 DVDs is going to be buying the Season 2 DVDs as well - and more people are buying the Season 1 DVDs all the time. Right now, the Arrested Development Season 1 DVD set is in the Top 50 Amazon DVD Top Sellers, and its rank has steadily risen since its release as word-of-mouth and good reviews have buoyed sales. It would be a real shame (both for viewers and for shareholders) if Fox were to make the same sort of mistake with Arrested Development that they did with Family Guy.

Sincerely,
[name, address, and phone number redacted]

If you have time, send an e-mail as well as mailing a snail-mail letter. It doesn't hurt to cover all the bases, especially with time as short as it is. With the vagaries of postal mail, you can't be certain when your letter will reach FOX, whereas the e-mail will be tallied right away.

My note was very short:

Mr. Feldstein:
I am eagerly awaiting the DVD release of Arrested Development's abbreviated second season. I am even more anxious about the overall fate of my favorite show. I can promise you that if Arrested Development is renewed for a third season, I'll be purchasing the DVD set for that season as well. You keep making episodes, I'll keep buying DVDs.

SAVE ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT,

Sincerely,

-real name here-

I wrote it on a blue 4"x6" note card. Will that work?
Do these effectively hide my thunder?

Pink Princess - I really like your note (very concise) and the postcard idea. I'll do the same.

Thanks for the great letter ideas - I've got them on the way thru email and postcard -
Let's keep up the pressure - Fox must know there is a nation of fanatics waiting for next season!

I'm really hoping that they get out the Season 2 DVDs before Season 3 starts (because it WILL start), because I still haven't seen it. I watched Season 1 on DVD and decided that I love getting all the backwards references, so I avoided watching Season 2... so I will write a letter to Fox as well.
