Write to Advertisers!

Postby vancredible » February 13th, 2005, 9:49 am

If you *TRULY* want to support AD, hit FOX where it hurts. Advertisements. Write to the National advertisers indicating that you truly enjoy AD and are thankful that they support the show. Tell them that you intend to support their products because they support AD!

DO IT NOW. I'm in canada and can't do much but DAMN YOU U.S. citizens do something so my favourite show is not cancelled!

T-Mobile was the one that they actually said was sponsoring AD. I was actually planning on getting a T-Mobile phone this week, so maybe I'll write them a letter thanking them for their support (and telling them I bought a phone/plan).

Yeah, the T-Mobile thing was VERY prominent last night... I think they would be a good place to send letters of thanks, indicating our support for the show and for them.

Although for episode #209, Cingular got the same treatment at the first commercial break. "Arrested Development is brought to you by Cingular, get more out of life" or something to that effect.

I know this is a little crazy, but I had a thought: after I searched "protest television sponsors," to get names and addresses of sponsors, the Parents Television Council website popped up. I went there and saw that at the click of the mouse, you can email national and local media outlets seperately, or all at the same time. You can write your own text and the email is sent to the proper department.

As long as we use it to write positive things about Arrested Development, I think it might work!

The subject line of the email can be whatever you want, it just says it's from the PTC email service.

Here is the link:

I mailed 19 postcards and letters today

Postby mrs.michaelbluth » February 17th, 2005, 2:15 pm

I know this may sound a little cheesy and nerdy, but today I made my own post cards. I used markers and wrote stuff like Save Arrested Development, then gave the day and time and station its on, I also put this web site on the bottom. I then colored them with bright colors to get peoples attention and had banana's on them. I mailed them to advertisers, fox exec's and media outlets. I also just send some to people I know. That way someone will see it and maybe they will be curious about it and tune in. Its something, and post card stamps are cheap so try it. Ill let you know if I get a reply.
Shows like Arrested Development are just like any other children in Hollywood—they’re loved until they fail to perform to expectations, and then they’re drowned in the swimming pool for not being as good as their dumb (but pretty!) brothers and sisters

Thanks for the advertiser list, iheartgob. Clever thinking on the PTC one, but I'd be worried that it doesn't actually email them.

Thanks editor!

I think the PTC email system does work because I got an auto-response from USA Today thanking me for my letter to the editor. So yay!

I saw a piece about the PTC on "The Daily Show" yesterday - they're a force to be reckoned with - and I think the media really pays attention when they see something from them.

Article
The FCC, in separate rulings, also denied indecency complaints filed by the Parents Television Council, a watchdog group, against the NBC comedy "Will and Grace" and the Fox comedy "Arrested Development."

I taped last night's show so I'm gonna try and post advertisers and addresses today or tomorrow. It's so important that sponsors know how devoted we are, so I'm willing to volunteer to try and keep this updated (yeah, I know we've only got a couple more...) Over at the Farscape campaign (and yes, I know I talk about it a lot. BUt it was successful and I think that we should really pay attention to all the things that other fan campaigns, not just Farscape, have done to get their shows back. And feel more than free to tell me to shut up if I start to talk about it too much.) Anyway, at the Farscape campaign we wrote to sponsors all the time and when we got the mini-series to air we had advertisers who were ready and willing to be involved.

One thing we did, also, that worked really well was to pick a faithful sponsor (we chose KFC) and buy/eat/ use their products/services and then send them reciepts to prove our dedication. When the mini came to TV KFC was a major sponsor and they said they were "Proud to sponsor the return of Farscape to the Sci-Fi CHannel" or something to that effect in their sponsorship commercial. :) Very exciting for us.

Anyway, if I get my philosophy homework done in the next hour or so I'll pop my tape in from last night and get on the advertiser stuff. :)

BTW: If I'm stepping on toes, just let me know. I wanna help when I can, but if I get in the way, let me know.
Dedicated Scaper and AD Fan,
SweetpeaAeryn

That all sounds great, SweetpeaAeryn02. Thanks for taking the time to get involved. It's nice to have people who have experience with fan campaigns to share what's worked for other shows in the past.
