Okay, I have to step in here for a moment...

I was only alive for four years during the 80's, and even I know that the only drugs that were big in the 80's was the hard stuff. Cocaine, heroin. That decade was all about having a lot of money, fast cars, light suits with your sleves pushed up, loafers and hard, expensive drugs.

Yeah, I get the AD weed and mushrooms references, but they have nothing to do with the 80's! If we were talking about the 60's, 70's, 90's or 00's then maybe... but COME ON!

Dude, there was plenty of pot in the '80s (as I'm sure Jason Bateman could tell you). I led an exceedingly dull life as far as illicit substances went, but I knew quite a few people whose rooms reeked of a certain unmistakable herb. Ye olde marijuana never went out of style. From my older friends, I certainly gather that cocaine was all the rage among those who could afford it. Heroin, not so much. I think you're right about mushrooms being considered passé in the '80s, though.
