what does Buster mean when he says "I'm not essing around here?"
I'm so glad this is the episode the Emmy people had to look at. J. Walter Weatherman will forever be my favorite guest charater name on the show..... The flashbacks towhen the bluth siblings were kids are always great.

I've always thought he meant "
sh!tting
around", but of course, he's Buster, so he can't say it.

I thought Buster said "
shitting
around" too, though my friend has added he might also be saying "
screwing
around." Either way, I agree with you that that's just Buster's way. "Like anyone would want to 'R' her."

No, one night I was really stoned and I hadn't seen this episode in a while. I laughed so hard when the smoke came out of GOB's mouth I woke people up. Ever since I have used this episode as an exuse to "toke up"

Hands down my favourite episode. I can't possibly add anything more which hasn't already been said about this episode, it just encompasses everything that is so freakin' awesome about this show.

I've heard some mixed reviews about season 3 so far and from what I've seen of season 2 , albeit only 5 or 6 episodes, season 1 just seems to be of a higher standard generally and it's episodes like Pier Pressure which show this. Just t'riffic.

Theres a running joke that George has had lots of affairs. And I'm guessing George bought Lucille a piece of jewellery every time he was caught, to apologise. Lindsay thought she deserved the broach for the time when he was caught with the au pair. I think, anyway :)

Uh... that's not quite it. An au pair is typically a foreigner from a developed country who comes and live with a wealthy family and takes care of the children. They typically do all the jobs of parenting, such as laundry. Typically the children are close to their au pair but this line shows that, in typical Bluth style, Lyndsey had absolutley no respect for the au pair.

Hope that helps. I think the line is hiliarious. It really shows that Lyndsey has never cared about people, even when she was young.
This makes absolutely no sense to me. I guess I am an idiot, but even if the au pair was a nanny, what does "clearing my throat and pointing to the laundry room" have to do with it, and why is a brooch involved? Also, how does this show that Lindsay had no respect for her?

I don't think AD is the show for you if you don't get this.It is not even a big joke, but every episode is stuffed with about 20 of these little observations. The clearing of the throat was when Lindsay saw G.Snr making out with the nanny. She coughed to grab Lucille's attention, and then gestured towards the wash room so they would be caught.....Doesn't really seem as funny when you break it down so much...It was a nice little observation though.

Well that makes sense, but cilleysf seemed to indicate that something else was the cause. And I still don't see why it shows disrespect for the au pair...if she was having sex with her dad I think it's a normal reaction.

Observation: Earlier, Lucille says "the week we had the au pair." So I don't think that's enough time for Lindsay to develop any closeness with her regardless.

Anyway, I've watched every episode for two and a half seasons now, and I don't think it's fair to say it's not the show for me just because I occasionally don't get a joke. I still don't see why it's funny. I thought it was universally baffling.

Hey everyone, this is the first time I've posted but I doubt there is a bigger fan of AD anywhere out there than me. If anyone says they are, it is a LIE, a BALDFACED LIE! (Narrator: "Gob was lying").

Anyway, this is definitely my favorite episode, and I think it just might be one of the best TV episodes of all time. I don't usually say things like that but if you asked me to make a list of the best 10 episodes ever made I think Pier Pressure would have to be up there. About the au pair thing... I think the affair explanation makes sense, but don't overanalyze or worry about it... I mean not everything on TV is going to be laugh out loud funny 100% of the time and AD is no exception, even their brilliant writers whiff occasionally (blasphemy!).

To contribute, one nice touch that I haven't seen mentioned yet is when Buster decides to score some weed for his girlfriend Lucille 2. The narrator says "Buster went to the tougehst, most streetwise kid he knew..." and you see him walk up to these two thugged out black guys, and then walk past them and cut to him saying hi to George Michael. I didn't even notice that the first 5 times I saw the episode but now it makes me crack up every time.

It doesn't mean that Lindsey was close to the au pair. By Lindsey's logic, since it was her au pair then she should be the one to get the brooch - it's all about being materialistic and not actually caring that her father had an affair with the au pair.

That's how I take it anyway.

i always thought that lindsey thought her mom would be proud of her for doing a typical "Lucille move" and being very cold to the au pair.
