#105: Charity Drive

From whence it came

I think the sheer randomness of it was sort of the point. The commercial was badly written, badly animated, and... well, just plain bad. Hence why Gob regrets giving up animation rights.

Plus, the banana whistles when it says "seagull."

Thanks. Maybe I underestimate Gob. I figured he was kicking himself after seeing the commercial because Bananagrabber finally took off (to some extent), and he wasn't getting any credit/monetary reimbursement. I thought that, if anything, he was impressed with the commercial.

He might have been a little angry over them making fun of his whistling in it, too.

Good point. It's very possible that he was a little sensitive about the whistling.

I'm still a stuck on this seagull thing though, and part of me is determined to make sense of it. Would a seagull ever eat a frog? It seems like this frog is a forest-dwelling frog, and I'm having trouble picturing a seagull in the woods. But then again, I've never seen bananas in the woods either.

I mean, I guess it would just be a guy who you know, grabs bananas and runs. Or, um, a banana that grabs things. I don’t know. Why would a banana grab another banana? I mean, those are the kind of questions I don’t want to answer.

See, even Michael doesn't understand it.
George Michael: Maybe it was the other George Michael, you know the singer/songwriter.

Michael: Yeah, that makes sense.

Isn't Mr. Bananagrabber done in GOB's voice? Maybe I mistook it when I heard it, but it sounded like him to me. Of course, it could have been the whistle too.

By the way, how many episodes has he showed up in... I know I've seen him a bunch more times (Mr Bananagrabber I mean), including in the video GOB makes for GM's election (The Immaculate Election #214). Any other times you can think of?

By the way, hi, and obligatory wishing I had known about this show before it was TOOO LAAAATE.

Welcome to the-op, coldfrog. Better late than never. And hey, you don't have to deal with the heart-crushing disappointment of Fox cutting the order and then leaving everyone hanging for months before finally cancelling it! :D

I think you might be right about Mr. Bananagrabber having GOB's voice. What with the whistle and the hair and the taking free bananas, Mr. Bananagrabber is sort of the all around banana version of GOB. It's too bad we never met Baby Bananagrabber. I would have loved to see Banana George Michael (or would it have been Banana Steve Holt! ?)
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words- "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Heh heh... I can see a tiny banana all pumping its fists in the air, shouting "Baby Grabber!" and then snatching a banana and eating it. And then finding out it is its cousin.

How does a banana even have a cousin (or a father)? I mean, those are the kind of questions I don't want to answer.

I love how Lucille tries to sound casual on the phone, but is actually reading a scripted conversation. "I don't want you to think that I am taking this more seriously than... you are... and unless you’re planning some grand romantic gesture, my feelings are just the teensiest bit hurt."

And then when he bids on her accidentally, her line just makes me crack up. "How grand! How terribly grand!"

I think Liza really carried a lot of this episode.
