I was gonna say John Wayne Gacy Jr.

Agreed, That song sends chills down my back everytime I hear it.

I have two.

Elliott Smith-Between The Bars
Death Cab For Cutie-What Sarah Said
I'll fake it through the day
with some help
from Johnny Walker red
Send the poisoned rain down the drain
to put bad thoughts in my head

Two-Headed Boy Part 2 by Neutral Milk Hotel is quite sad.

Oh, I completely forgot about Neutral Milk Hotel. That entire album is so sad.
Buster: Mom is becoming a little controlling.
Michael: What tipped you off? When she locked you out on the balcony again?
Buster: That was half my fault. I thought I saw a graham cracker out there.
Michael: You baited the balcony?
Lucille: Prove it.

Razor by Foo Fighters I think is really melancholy.
Lindsay: I've always been passionate about nature.
Michael:You're wearing ostrich skin boots.
Lindsay:Well I don't care about ostriches.

Pogues are great and so is the old tune "waltzing matilda", however i like their version of "the auld triangle" better and the original "Fairytale of New York".

I am huge Nick Cave fan, I did not see any other posts mentioning his song.
The boatman's call makes me feel particularly weepy, and No More Shall We Part is an equisite album with beautiful melancholy lyrics and lots of fiddle and piano.
"The Sorrowful Wife" and "Darker is the Day" are top picks for melancholy Nick for me.

I use to think Against Me! - "Pints of Guinness Make You Strong" was a really sad song. It doesn't affect me like it once did but it is still pretty sad.

the flaming lips - feeling yourself disintegrate

Dealing with love, life, loss, and all that…pretty sad to me. Maybe not to everyone, though…

And in my dreams, you're alive and you're crying
As your mouth moves in mine, soft and sweet

Those lines especially get to me.

This and "Oh Comely" get my vote.

Ha ha ha...Thanks for the input, Messrs. Cross and Odenkirk. "The Teardrop Awards" is one of my favorite sketches. "I'll miss you...me."

As for real sad songs, my favorites that aren't completely emo are:
"Hurt": Johnny Cash
"Youngstown," and "Streets of Philadelphia," and (especially) "The River": Bruce Springsteen
"War on Drugs": Barenaked Ladies
"Hallelujah": Leonard Cohen
"Tonight's The Night": Neil Young
"The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows": Brand New
"Shine a Light," and "Wild Horses": The Rolling Stones
"Bartender": Dave Matthews Band

I have to agree with miss_misery, What Sarah Said man, damn that is a sad song. And I also agree with GOBstopper but if I had just gone through a bad relationship I would defently listen to Lack Of Color and ofcourse cry like a little girl.
