Come on Down to South Park

There are shows other than Arrested Development? Really?

Postby Blueberry Head » April 19th, 2006, 10:18 pm

It turns out that Comedy Central DID censor South Park.
Here's the clip with Muhammed:

i could play peter saying "you think THAT'S bad!" over and over again.

tonight's episode wasn't their best, but i was cracking up when they were zoomed in on oprah's crotch for about 2 minutes straight.

I agree, it had everything I dislike about South Park. I'm an odd fan of South Park I guess, I hate potty humor so I usually wince at least once or twice per episode, but the rest is usually so good I still enjoy it. This one.. not so much, it wasn't funny and was too gross for me to enjoy. And I missed the boys from South Park! It was like watching a different show without them.

I just starting watching South Park this past year, so I'm glad this bad episode may be just a fluke. Any other really bad ones I should avoid, as I try to catch up on previous seasons?

Actually, every single episode up till about the ninth season was stellar. Make sure to catch the movie, too.

Though if you're worried about potty humor, I do hope you understand that the phrase applies quite literally in a number of episodes, particularly around Christmastime.

Chrisarah81 - The only episodes I'd suggest you avoid are Tweek vs Craig and The Passion of the Jew. South Park has its fair share of average episodes, but those are the only two REALLY awful ones. As for things you SHOULD see, definitely try to get your hands on Seasons 6, 7 and 8. They're easily the best seasons of the show (particularly Season 6 - not a bad episode in the bunch).

1. Comedy Central didn't censor it. Yes, they refused to air the image of Muhammed, but the South Park staff knew weeks in advance (hence all the jokes about networks "pussing out"). The censored screen that appears when Mohammed enters the room was done by the South Park staff, not Comedy Central.
2. That clip is fake - I mean, just look at it. Firstly, Mohammed is in South Park style rather than Family Guy style. Secondly, his lips don't move when he talks, and the sound byte is from Team America. Thirdly, the edges of Mohammed are blurred, and overlap the lines of Family Guy. Forth, only his eyes move when he looks down - a true South Park character would have their head rotate a little, too. And finally, the clip has a Comedy Central watermark on it! How did that get there when the footage never aired?! It's fake, one of SP's producers even said so in a recent interview. I can't believe people are still getting duped by it...

Anyway, onto the new episode, now. I'm not quite sure what to make of A Million Little Fibers. On one hand, I normally like South Park's mindless, over-the-top stupid episodes (eg. Prehistoric Ice Man, Towelie, The New Terrance & Phillip Movie Trailer), but this one was pretty crappy. Towelie had a few good lines, but aside from that, he was the only real South Park character in there. The episode really fell apart when Oprah's "minge" and "Gary" came into the story... I'd say about 20% of the entire thing was just a close-up on Oprah's pants, and that's just plain poor show-making. An episode idea that had a lot of potential for humour, but lost it all in the execution.

I disagree. I thought this episode REALLY showed the difference between a piece of crap like Family Guy and the sophisticated wit that South Park is known for. Say what you will about South Park, but it has never made a joke that was almost purely based on its target's own recognizance, and it's NEVER stooped to puerile humor that makes no sense.

All I can say is bravo. What an excellent, excellent episode to air after bashing another show on TV for being stupid and cheap.

I get what you're saying, Vcalzone... and the answer is no. Sorry, but I just don't swing that way. :?

Seriously though, good point about the timing of this episode, it was certainly a bad thing to follow after what they were saying the last two weeks. Granted, most of the jokes WERE relevant to the storyline, but like that means anything when you have "storyline" like this. Seriously, what did this episode set out to accomplish? It actually felt more like a Drawn Together episode, in the sense that it was an aimless, nonsensical, pointless storyline with the sole intent to create toilet humour and nothing else. Granted, like Drawn Together, there were SOME funny bits, but overall, it was more misses than hits (also like Drawn Together), and I can't see myself watching it again anytime soon. There are far better things I could've watched if I wanted to see a close-up of someone's crotch for 5 minutes.

By now, we know that we can expect the occassional episode focussing on a sub-character (Great Expectations, Here Comes the Neighbourhood, Erection Day), and we also know we can expect the occassional crazy, senseless episode - but doing them both at once just created a weird atmosphere. And after Stan and Kenny were sorely neglected last week, you'd have thought they'd do a nice little character episode to bring South Park back to normality a little. Instead, they do the complete opposite, which would've been fine if it was a really funny episode, or at least watchable on any other level. Honestly, I'd be REALLY embarassed to show this to someone who hadn't seen South Park before. :(

Oh yes, I know what you mean- literally potty humor. I've already watched a couple of the Christmas episodes, but I think they're pretty funny since the "potty humor" is so over the top. I laugh but I'm ashamed :)

Wow, first one to comment on the new episode, despite not seeing it until over 6 hours after all you lucky Americans did. I know this is most likely due to the forum screwing up, but still, I'm considering this a victory! :P

Anyway, Manbearpig's not as good as everyone's saying it is... Granted, it's nowhere near as bad as last week's, but it reminded me of Free Wilzyx. The storyline's fairly grounded, all the good jokes quickly become dull, and the ending (eg. Cartman crapping out the treasure, Jamboo dead on the moon) could be seen coming a mile away. You know, South Park's jokes may be relevant to the plot, but they're always hit-or-miss, and lately, there have been more misses than hits. There were just no real surprises or stand-out good jokes, and if it weren't for Al Gore being so hilariously pathetic, this would be a very average episode.

Tsst was pretty good... a very nice character exploration of Cartman, and some funny moments. LOVED all the jokes about the current trend in nanny shows (along with their horrible appearances, and the way Cartman was so easily able to rebel against them), and the show really shined in those first few minutes when Cesar Millan was treating Cartman like a dog. Lots of Cartman abuse, some good character humour, and it was great to see NO-ONE lending a hand to Cartman when he was down, not even Butters. Still, it wasn't without its problems - the storyline seemed a little aimless (though that's forgivable since it was a character episode), and there were quite a few dull moments, but overall, this is definitely one of the better episodes this season. Not quite as good as Cartoon Wars, but certainly more watchable than A Million Little Fibers, that's for sure.

I loved the Dog Whisperer episode. It was so funny to see Cartman's spirit being broken by Cesar and his mom.

My mom loves the Dog Whisperer, so she watched it with me and thought it was great.

I really enjoyed it, but it did kinda lose steam towards the end. Fortunately, the first half was funny enough to overlook any problems with the second half.
