#312: Exit Strategy (spoilery)

The final countdown?

Postby zzzz » March 2nd, 2006, 10:43 pm

maybe i shoulnd't have used the word link... sorry, english isn't my first language... i'll try to re-state my thoughts....

i find it cool how the lucille tells michael that george senior gets figs from iraq back in season 1 episode 22 (let em eat cake), and on the other hand buster asks about the existance of figs in iraq during his deja vu act with adelaide

tats basically it, lol. i, by no means at all, was implying that there is a hidden message or meaning behind the word figs....

I always took the fig line to be both a direct callback to the Adelaide/Reggie clip in Notapussy and sort of an echo (not quite a callback) of Lucille's line in Let 'Em Eat Cake. It's pretty subtle, and it could just be coincidence, but I definitely thought of Let 'Em Eat Cake when I heard it. I'd say it's fairly possible it was intentional.
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words- "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I'd forgotten about Lucille's line about figs in Let 'Em Eat Cake. Good call!

I appreciate any excuse to revisit a specific episode.

my friend W.A. Gillock just pointed an interesting thing out to me...i didnt really read this board in depth do i don't know if someone already caught it. back in the first or second episode of the third season, george sr. claims he thought saddam was the soup nazi:

"i thought he was the soup nazi...i told him i loved his work!"

well, in exit strategy, saddam look-a-like 3 is actually Larry Thomas, the actor who played the Soup Nazi in the actual Seinfeld episode.

It's actually been mentioned about 3-4 times now... :?

Oh well, it doesn't change the fact that it's a great joke, and this is an awesome episode. Here's a question, though: Does anybody know exactly what the CIA operation was? I mean, piecing together things from the series, it seems as if the house was built for Saddam, then during the war, the CIA moved in a bunch of Saddam lookalikes (most likely for protection), but still, it doesn't explain who they were bugging (Saddam or the lookalikes?), what the entire operation was hoping to achieve, or why they needed a patsy in the first place. Anyone got a decent explanation for it all?

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I always thought it was clever how they hinted at Tobias' relationship with Carl Weathers way before Weathers actually appeared in the show, when Lindsey said a throway line in Key Decisions about Tobias being at a stage-fighting workshop with CW.

AD never ceases to amaze me.

And that was one long sentence.

WHY, Beamer, WHY? It doesn't really matter, the world is not going to end if something gets mentioned more than once.

I never said it was, however, it's generally encouraged that users read threads before replying in them.

I believe the entire point of it was that the point was completely unclear. Like a lot of failed missives of the CIA, it finally seemed to make very little sense, and who knows, maybe it was something that was never even carried through to begin with.

That should do it.

Does anyone else think this is the greatest episode of season 3? Singling out the exploding finale.
Gob: Bzz lets see who brings in more honey
Micheal: He was thinking about bees again

Get him he's got bees
Lucille: They don't allow you to have bees in here.

I haven't watched it since the announcement but I never did get all the fuss! It is a brilliant episode but not my fave of season 3.

I definitely agree with Tv Junkie. Granted, the episode's not without its flaws (it doesn't really pick up until about the 10-minute mark, and they lose track of half the characters in Act 3), but it's easily a stand-out episode. Great jokes, lots of callbacks, awesome story, and so many revelations for the fans! Not as good as the orgasmically perfect Development Arrested, but still, it overtook Mr. F as my favourite episode for a while.

It is one of those episodes that I hated first time around (I think it was too fast paced and epic for everything to sink in with one viewing), but loved with each additional viewing. Oh, and the music that keeps playing through this episode is so incredibly catchy... I've had it stuck in my head for months. :)
