Development on Arrested Movie

Posted by Clint Morris on July 12, 2006

Plans are apparently underway to bring “Arrested Development” to the big screen.

(Ah, nothing feels better than giving a short-lived series - well, “Arrested” lasted a reasonable 3 seasons - a reprieve on the big screen, does it?)

Speaking to TV Guide, star Alia Shawkat said "Mitch [Hurwitz, the creator] actually recently told us that there is a good possibility for a movie, and that he's talking to Ron Howard about it."

Ronny, of course, is one of the show’s producers. He also narrated the series. If anyone can make it happen, Fonzie’s pal can. (And let’s face it; it’ll save Jason Bateman from the inevitable “Teen Wolf Again”).

Update: There has been no official word of any sort about a movie, but many of the cast have mentioned the possibility of one. There may be one at some point in the future, but it is not currently in the works.

'tis wonderful to hear after that Hurwitz annoucement from a few months back. Let's hope it's a little more than buzz.

Something like AD works better as a show than a movie, but if a movie is what we need to relight the spark then so be it. I'm all for it, and I'm confident they all know what they're doing.

If it happened, I imagine it wouldn't be like a 'movie' as such, more like 3 or 4 episodes screened one after the other - kind of like what they did with the final 4 episodes.

I don't think they'd do something like that. It'd definately have to be something with movie-like production value rather than a re-badged set of TV episodes.

It'd have to be something self-contained, yet obviously still AD. Not terribly difficult to do, especially with the talent we're looking at. Basically, it needs to do the job that the marketing for the show failed to do.

That's not what I meant. What I'm saying is I can't imagine the feel of it being like a movie, more like watching an AD marathon where the story naturally flows.

Well, only without having several stories within the larger arc and minus the previews, of course.

Should they call it Arrested Development, or would they give it another name so that, while fans of the show will know what it is, others who may otherwise say, "well I never watched the show, so why bother?" will still potentially attend.

And, would they try to tack on a big name to give it more box office appeal?

Tom Cruise IS Michael Bluth in Ron Howard's "I've Made a Huge Mistake."

*thunk! thunk thunk thuthunkkkk!!*

OK, who brought rotten vegetables into The OP?

I don't think that they'd call it Arrested Development--there's already a movie coming out this year called Arrested Development. As far as big names go, I'm not so sure. Maybe Martin Short could carry this movie on his back...it could be the Uncle Jack story.

What, bad idea?

If they do make a movie, it should be produced by "Tantamount Studios."

Alternative Title Suggestion:

The Bluth Brothers. Make it about Michael Gob and Buster! :)

That's a wonderful title!

How about "Every Which Way But Bluths"?

That one could have the potential to be confusing to some people.
