Cuomo, 36, said he has been writing songs, but said, "I don't know what'll happen with these songs -- if anything. ... I certainly don't see them becoming Weezer songs, and I don't really see the point of a solo career. So we'll just have to see."

So why the heck are you even bothering to write songs, then? Go see a movie or drink a beer with friends instead.

Weezer's first album remains one of my all-time favorites.

Thank God. It's about time I can listen to the Blue Album and Pinkerton without thinking about all the bullshit he was currently making.

Still, those two are two of my all-time favorites.

I agree. Those two are classics.

Why he felt the need to destroy the master tapes for those 2 albums is beyond my comprehension. they were in no way inferior to the albums he made subsequently, which I think was his reasoning.

That's a shame, I always thought they could pull off another Pinkerton if they dropped all that "pop" crap from their music.

I'm going to miss them.

me = sad.

I agree that Weezer was getting too pop, but still, I'd take bad Weezer over good stuff from quite a few artists any day.
Note to self: You are now an Andre Braugher fan.

Agreed.

Something I've always liked about Weezer are their melodies, a part of music that is sorely lacking from most bands on the radio right now. Maybe "Beverly Hills" isn't their best song ever, but I still find it entertaining and a good break from the monotony of modern rock.

Well, if that's what you're after, check out Phantom Planet, especially their first two albums. Or Brendan Benson. Both have the spark and the joyfulness and the passion that Weezer hasn't had in 12 years.

aside from beverley hills i thought the new album was pretty good. particularly 'this is such a pity' and 'haunt you every day' are two of my favorite weezer songs. i actually really liked maladroit. three really bad songs, but the rest were great i thought. green sucks, aside from 'hash pipe' and maybe one or two other songs. pickerton rocks pretty hard, but i really dont like 'butterfly'. and its not because its the only real slow song on the album, it just sucks. and blue is probably the only album of theirs that has some songs with lyrics i actually like.

not too sad that they wont be making another album in any case. fountains of wayne are a much better pop band anyway 8)

Butterfly (and Pinkerton as a whole) makes a lot more sense when you come to the realization that it's about Madame Butterfly, if you haven't already. Took me a long time to see that, mostly because I didn't know bleep about Madame Butterfly.

Wha-wha-wha-wha-what! You don't like the writing on Pinkerton? "Pink Triangle", "The Good Life" and "El Scorcho" have some of the best writing I've heard in pop music in the last 20 years or so.

Or maybe I'm just a loser-ish guy that can relate.

I knew there were lots of references to Madame Butterfly, but I only semi-recently found out that Pinkerton is the name of a character.

Yeah, I havent heard either of them, but thanks for the recommendation. I'm always willing to find some new bands/artists to listen to.
