You can add one via your profile page. Scroll down near the bottom to find this. You're able to select any image you want, although you might need to use photoshop (or any comperable photo editing software) to reduce the size of the image so that it is reasonable (I think 8X8 is the "limit").

There are no avatars hosted on this site (not yet, at least), so you'll have to find a place to host it that accepts 'hotlinking'. Geocities, Tripod and other free pages usually don't allow this. If you don't have your own domain/web hosting service, a free way to host your image is to sign up for a Photobucket account.

If you have any additional questions, I'd reccomend emailing the editor of this site.

I just linked the thumbnail from the image galleries here. Right click a thumbnail, "copy image location", then paste it in your profile.

The method that becky and balboafunzone should work.

Click "Profile."

Scroll to the bottom, and where it says, "Link to off-site Avatar:", paste the URL of the avatar.

In my case, it's http://the-op.com/images/112-marta-kiss-tn.jpg

Click Submit.

Voila, it should display in your profile and next to your posts.

My avatar width is 125px and it does not elongate the width of the forum.

Do I still have to decrease the size of my avatar to 75x75?

How do I get to the thumbnails?

I'm not sure quite what you're asking, so here goes. When you go to an image page (e.g., here), all of the little squares are thumbnails.

Right click over the thumbnail, and select Properties.

In the window that pops up, there is an Address (URL).

Select the URL (e.g., http://the-op.com/image/xxxx.jpg) and copy it. That text is what you'll put in your profile.

for the first time i actually bothered to try and make an avatar. i edited a picture to be the correct size, and it's hosted on imageshack, but when i paste the url in the edit profile section it still doesn't seem to work. the url is this:

I'm not sure. That's very strange, because I just tried changing my avatar to that URL and it worked. Maybe try using one of the official OP ones, then once you have one already, try again to change it?
