Twenty Good Years

There are shows other than Arrested Development? Really?

Twenty Good Years

I hate to be a pessimist, especially when regarding an Arrested Development alum, but this show looks kind of...er, bad. There's a preview at www.nbc.com (if this is mentioned elsewhere, I'm sorry). It's a little sad. I hope Tambor finally finds the success that he deserves, but going from AD to this looks like it might be the television equivalent of going from prime rib to...well, you know.

I second that, it looks more like a showcase for John Lithgow to ham it up.

If there wasn't a laugh track it would be a lot better.

It seems like John Lithgow's style doesn't mesh that well with Jeffrey Tambor's. Or at least they haven't figured out how to make their styles click together. At any rate, it's a pilot, and about 90% of pilots are total crap. I'm sure with those two behind it, only REALLY dismal ratings will get the plug pulled prematurely, and with luck, they'll make it work.

I read a review of it at The Futon Critic (who's usually on the ball about these things) and he said that it's a regular old sitcom - but it's a well-done, enjoyable regular old sitcom. Thus, while it won't revolutionize the way that TV is made it's good for laughs and we won't have to hang our head in shame and walk past a doghouse.

Hopefully.

Critics are tearing it apart, I don't see it lasting.

I heard the jury's still out on critics.

This is one of those shows that I root for it to succeed for Tambor's sake, but I doubt I'd ever really watch it. The idea has merit at least.

That laugh track is a bitch of a thing but it certainly has the potential to get much better. Tambor wasn't really given anything to do. Hopefully he's given the chance to do more than just stand there and be uptight. Lithgow was fun to watch ("A man on the edge is his own sun!") and it's good to see him back on tv. If I didn't have such undying faith in Jeffrey Tambor and John Lithgow, I probably wouldn't watch again but I do, so...two more weeks!
Last we heard of him, he was ridin' some kind of a deal and got hit in the head with a goose.

Snakes, alligators, quicksand... all bent on one thing: destruction.

I couldn't stomach it either. I don't know, it was just too...something. All I could think of was that commercial Tambor did (for progressive car insurance, i think) where he's complaining about his agent not always coming through for him.

And there was a birth in the pilot? i'm sorry, but this one has day one JTS written all over it.

The ratings were terrible, I'm glad, because this means Tambor can go find an actually good show.

yeah, this show just...this show just...this show...ugh. Was I the only one hoping that Lucille (1) would appear from a cloud of smoke and body Angela from Who's the Boss?

I decided to watch the new episode of Jerico instead of this. It looks like I made a good decision.
