We've lost a writer with ties to Arrested Development:

Irving Brecher, who wrote the screenplay to Bye, Bye, Birdie dies of heart attack.

Tobias: "And this is “Kids,” from Bye Bye Birdie."
Hey, Mikey, relax. It’s just a giant banana.

This is sudden...

Sunny von Bulow dies after 28 years in coma

NEW YORK (CNN) -- After spending nearly 28 years in an irreversible coma, heiress and socialite Martha "Sunny" von Bulow died Saturday in a New York nursing home, according to a family statement. She was 76.

Von Bulow was subject of one of the nation's most sensational criminal cases during the 1980s.

Her husband, Claus, was accused of trying to kill her with an overdose of insulin, which prosecutors alleged sent her into the coma.

He was convicted of making two attempts on her life, but the conviction was overturned on appeal. He was acquitted in a second trial.

His retrial in 1985 received national attention.

Deep Throat Dies
W. Mark Felt, who leaked information to reporters under the moniker, "Deep Throat," about the Watergate break-in, died Thursday at the age of 95. Felt, who worked with the FBI in 1973, gave information to Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein that eventually led to the 1974 resignation of President Richard Nixon.

Sammy Baugh, NFL Great, Dies at 94
Sammy Baugh, the Washington Redskins quarterback who was one of football’s greatest passers and a pivotal figure in transforming the National Football League from a plodding affair into a high-scoring spectacle, died Wednesday in Rotan, Tex. He was 94.

I'll take both of those points, thank you.

Though of late, I think I'm the only one playing.

Ron Silver, 62, esophageal cancer.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/TV/03/1 ... index.html

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Actor and political activist Ron Silver, who played a recurring role in TV's presidential drama "The West Wing," and who also let his political views play out in real life, died Sunday after a two-year battle with esophageal cancer, according to a colleague.

Ron Silver is seen in this 2006 photograph. He had a recurring role in TV's "The West Wing."

Robin L. Bronk, executive director of The Creative Coalition, said Silver, a New York native, died in his sleep with his family around him.

"Nothing could hold Ron back, not even a debilitating illness. His contributions as an artist and activist will never be forgotten," said Bronk, who runs an organization founded in 1989 by Silver, actor Christopher Reeve and other prominent figures in the arts as a political advocacy organization for the entertainment industry.

I feel like I'm playing with myself here.

Anyway, I think this counts. It's very sad, though.

NATASHA RICHARDSON IS BRAIN DEAD
CRITICALLY INJURED IN SKIING ACCIDENT

Actress Natasha Richardson is brain dead - after falling in a ski accident in Canada - and is now on sad journey home to New York, friends told The Post today.

Richardson, who was being treated at a Montreal hospital, is being transported to New York this afternoon so her mom Vanessa Redgrave, two children and other loved ones can say goodbye before she's taken off life-support, friends said.

Redgrave was in London when the accident happened but arrived in New York today to see her gravely injured daughter, sources said.

Liam Neeson, husband of the Broadway and screen star, left shooting of his movie in Toronto to rush to Richardson's side in Montreal and now on the trip home.

The British-born Richardson, 45, fell during a private lesson at Mont Tremblant resort yesterday and allegedly told resort employees she felt fine.

But an hour later, she complained of an extreme headache and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Richardson was on a beginner's slope and reportedly not wearing a helmet when she fell - although headgear is not required.

"She did not show any visible sign of injury but the ski patrol followed strict procedures and brought her back to the bottom of the slope and insisted she should see a doctor," said a statement from the resort, which is almost 80 miles northwest of Montreal.

"Approximately an hour after the incident Mrs. Richardson was not feeling good."
