Quotes

Dr. Fishman: Yes, he’s lost his left hand. So he’s going to be “all right.”

Lucille: You son of a bitch. I hate this doctor!

Lindsay: How do we keep getting this guy?

Michael: Mom, he’s a very literal man.

Dr. Fishman: Yes, that’s more the way I would take the news.

I saw this episode for the first time last night (hey, I’m British) and I really enjoyed it. I much preferred it to Burning Love/Ready, Aim, Marry Me/Out On A Limb - it seemed much more AD-like in the way everything just flowed together and the jokes seemed less staged. The all-too-literal doctor is a great cameo too - loved his "but you still have a hook in your ass" line to Gob at the end.

From what I’ve read elsewhere, the next few episodes up to the end of season 2 are of a really high quality too so I’m happy.

According to TiVo, this episode will air again after episode 308 "Making a Stand" on 12/19 at 8:30p...

Beamer wrote:I caught something during a repeat viewing of an earlier episode. Not sure if it’s been mentioned already, but anyway... You know in this episode, when Lucille rings up Michael and screams, then he tells her that she needs to stop starting conversations like that? Well, watch Afternoon Delight. When Lucille rings up Michael about the break-in, she DOES start a conversation by screaming into the phone! This show just continues to impress me... :D

Yes! I remember catching that during my second viewing. Brilliant.

This hour of episodes (with out on a limb) were the first time I really got into watching AD, and I’ve always wondered, did people pickup on the signs that Buster was going to lose his hand? Like the little foreshadows by John Beard and the dramatic music playing when Buster was with Lucille by the ocean in earlier episodes. I never got a chance to experience these clever hints and always looked for stuff like this in later episodes, but they never really did anything else of that nature, but was the word out on Busty’s left hand getting eaten before these eps aired?

I don’t think anyone here got it from the foreshadowing - the jokes were so obscure that they were really just there for comedy in repeat viewings rather than hints. However, the word of Buster’s hand getting eaten WAS out before these episodes were aired. I believe it was mentioned in this episode’s press release or something...

I already knew it was coming because I was at the FOX forums and the title of a thread was SOMEONE LOSES A LIMB!!! One reason I don’t care for the FOX forums because people like to make spoilers titles of threads.

GOB’s reaction to buster losing his hand is priceless.

What the hell...He’s got no hand!!! and the terminally ill cats bit was genius.

We are so slow here in Australia, but this episode just aired for the first time last night, and on first watch, this was way better than Out on a Limb.

It’s so hard to contain my laughter since it aired at midnight and everyone’s asleep. This episode had so many good moments, especially Buster’s reaction to Michael’s joke, and when Buster has a brain explosion after massaging Oscar, then Gob entering the room. There were just way too many jokes in this episode to comment on. I can’t wait until next Wednesday when the Season 2 DVD boxset comes out, so I can finally watch this season properly.

wow. it aired exactly a year to the day after it was originally shown in the US. that sucks.

Tell me about it... although we’re only 2 days behind when it comes to late night talk shows such as Conan O’Brien (technically a day and a half, since our timezone’s around about 12 hours ahead of yours), most of our other shows are about 2-6 months behind... we only just got the latest Simpsons halloween special last week. And since Channel 7 doesn’t give a crap about Arrested Development, or any show after 10:30pm for that matter (AD gets a 12:00pm Monday slot after Scrubs - which is over 2 years behind here), they just schedule it when they feel like it. :(

Luckily, The Comedy Channel on Foxtel (Aussie cable) treats the show well - gave it quite an over-promotion when they first picked it up, and had it in a daily 8:00pm slot for 3 months - although they only have the rights to Season 1 at the moment, and eventually moved it to an average 6:00pm weekends slot (though I believe they’ll probably put it back in a daily slot again for a while once they aqquire Season 2).
