Staircar Snarls Air Traffic
Air traffic throughout the western United States was disrupted following an incident at John Wayne Airport.

Stairway vehicle blocks tarmac, snarling western U.S. air travel.
NEWPORT BEACH (Episode 5)— A man, identified as Balboa resident Tobias Fünke, parked an out-of-commission airport stairway vehicle on runway 4 at John Wayne Airport, disrupting traffic into and out of the airport yesterday afternoon.
Parking lot attendees inadvertently directed Mr. Fünke onto airport property after seeing the red, white, and blue stairway vehicle. The vehicle was formerly used by the Bluth Company for their company jet, but is now used by the disgraced Bluth family for their transportation needs. Mr. Fünke is the son-in-law of George Bluth, Sr., who is facing indictment on charges of embezzling funds from the Bluth Company.
Mr. Fünke parked the stairway vehicle on runway #4, thus preventing air traffic controllers from utilizing the busy runway for takeoffs and landings. Airport officials were forced to delay and cancel over 100 flights. This created a ripple effect through the western United States, delaying flights as far away as Las Vegas, NV.
The Department of Homeland Security was consulted shortly after the mix-up. Government officials determined that the stairway vehicle posed no terrorist threat.
Airport officials said that an immediate review of the security procedures would occur so that no future unauthorized stairway vehicles would make it onto airport property.

Was it actually called "Newport Beach International Airport" on the show? That’s weird. It’s "John Wayne Airport" and it’s located in Santa Ana (although v. close to NB). Hmm.
Nitpicking. sorry.

You are correct, Rachel. The airport was never identified. I’ve fired our fact checker (or tried to; seems I don’t have hiring and firing power). I should’ve know something was wrong when her resume said she graduated from Harverd Universaty with an M.B.N.A. in B.S.

Heh heh. MBNA in BS. Great article by the way. You must have your hands full editing and writing lots of articles. I’d apply for fact checker, but I want to be an acTOR.
