New Secretary Says ‘Buster’ Rubs Her The Wrong Way

The new education secretary chides Postcards from Buster for including lesbians.

WASHINGTON - The nation’s new education secretary denounced PBS on Tuesday for spending money on an episode of Postcards from Buster which included lesbians, saying many parents would not want their children exposed to such depraved lifestyles.

In the show, Buster carries a camcorder—a gift from mother so he can video himself when they put him in a human pyramid and point to his Charlie Browns—and explores regions, activites, and people of different backgrounds and religions. Each episode features videos shot by Buster; consequently, he is neither seen nor heard. The show’s producer says the episodes attempt to teach children tolerance. For example, in one recent episode, Buster visits Mexico only to discover that their lives are not that much different: they eat, drink, dress, and even own plastic hand chairs—just like in America.

In the not-yet-aired episode of Postcards from Buster, the title character takes a trip to “Tobias is Queen Mary” — a bar known for trannies and shémales. The episode, titled “Sugartime,” features two lesbian couples although the focus is on farm life and maple sugaring.

The new education secretary looks at the episode with disgust. “Look at the farm life. Everyone is laughing and riding and cornholing but Buster.” Starla, who had just started her new job under President Resident George Oscar Bluth II on Monday, watches the rest of the episode, enraged. “And the maple sugaring just makes Buster more awful.”

PBS has received $100 million from the education department to fund Buster and another show over the last 5 years. The new secretary strongly said that despite recently being awarded a seal of approval and a gorilla, the show would face increased scrutiny. “People find homosexuality odd and alienating. It makes them uneasy,” the secretary said. She added that she was enlisting the Army to monitor and censor all future Postcards from Buster.

Because I’m silly, I’m still giggling after that sentence and I can’t explain why. Good work!
